OK 'ITS A FUN THING EVEN I BUY THESE ' the crackers wrapping is quite pretty but the little trinkets inside are pathetic '
nothing really has change over the years ' and you can pay a lot for some ' the adult ones I found the best gifts but they come expencive ,
and with the budget ones they dont even pull good sometimes ...just a swizz ...but mainly I buy to lay them out on the table ' So come on cracker makers give us some good funny gifts inside our cracker …..cracker-exploding.jpg

I think they have mostly been a British tradition at Christmas. I have never seen them here in the US other than for children's birthday parties in my youth. But then again, it's a big country.

I bet, as our world has been getting smaller, these crackers may be enjoyed by Americans too, by now.

But then, some will protest about choking dangers for the children.

Hope you can find some good ones this year, Toffee.

I havn't had crackers at home since we started eating our Christmas lunch out where we have them on the table, the gifts are a bit of fun, with the corny joke as well

Why not make your own Toffee, they are easy
to do as long as you don't want the crack when
they are pulled.

You can put small gifts of your choice inside to
suit your family/guests at the party, you can even
put their names on, if a couple is involved, name
two crackers and present them together, so that
they know who gets which gift.

They are only crepe paper and card use the tube
from an old toilet paper roll as a template, punch
small holes in the center to help it to break claenly.

Mike.

really?/ are you sure?...did I imagine it or did I not see Crackers in it's a wonderful life?.. if I didn't then I had no idea you guys didn't have Christmas crackers ..wow!! 🎄

Toffee you're right, Christmas crackers are just another ridiculous money maker here.. Simple home made crackers with a paper joke , and a paper hat as they once were decades ago would be just as much fun, as £1,000 crackers which contain a silver plated tie pin..

I never buy Crackers any more..

Holly, I have seen that movie more than several times but I don't remember crackers. Maybe I just didn't notice them.

They're not unheard of here, and they do show up at birthday parties but I've never seen them for Christmas. I think they would be fun for a change!

I’m not positive but I think they are a British tradition. We came from England and used to have them every year and they were fun. They came with a hat, a joke and a small gift. Of course the gifts were usually totally dorky little things but they were fun.

Since my parents went down south for 30 plus years and we never used them, last Christmas I purchased the nicest ones I could find since they stayed home. Yes they were outrageously expensive but it was our first and last Christmas together in decades so was well worth it. 😎

@RadishRose , it could be that I am just so used to seeing them I imagined they were there... :D

keesha.. here, Crackers can be bought for as little as a few pounds with .as you say.. a little silly gift like a plastic ring a joke and a paper hat that never fits anyone... but that's supposed to be the fun of it for kids. I think when businesses expect £30 or £40 for something that is giving those little junk items then it's gone too far.. not to mention the overinflated £££'s ones, that some companies make.

I remember many years ago giving a dinner party one Christmas, and making my own Crackers, they were very pretty and as I couldn't think of gifts to give my guests for Christmas , I decided to let them take their chances with the Crackers, so I stuffed them with little things like silver earrings, or silver bracelets, and tie-pins, and silver keyrings etc... went down a storm....

One of the organized projects that the women do at my apartments every Fall, is collect toilet paper rolls and fill them with candy and maybe small plastic toys, wrap them up with pretty paper & ribbons like above, and donate the finished rollers to orphanages in Mexico for Christmas.

Totally agree and I bet those were fabulous handmade crackers. I’ve thought about making some but never did so good for you. I bet your guests have fond memories of the occasion.
