Back in the early '80s, I created a computer program for a former employer that used two digit year codes. As Y2K approached, I thought of them from time to time but am pretty sure they would have replaced that program after almost 20 years. :D

I had already bought a new computer years before
that was fine, maybe it had four digit years, i can't
remember except that it had Windows 95 on it.

Mike.

We were in the food manufacturing biz and sold a lot of food for emergency storage - dehydrated soy products and meals. We were also building a new building and were swamped. Barely remember that time except after the big century mark came, the next year was a down year business wise. Wonder if a lot of folks were eating some of that stored food!

I was at work testing various applications to ensure that the computer programs were functioning properly.

So much work had gone into the preparations for the change that it was a non-event.

I also remember that the company I worked for had the Marriott catering company that ran our cafeteria put out very generous New Years' eve buffets for us to enjoy while we were working.

I was one of the people (my husband did also) who spent the 5 years prior to 2000 making project and business plans for businesses and government agencies and implementing the plans to test, verify everything and make changes as needed so that it would be a non-event!

People who scoffed and laughed the next day that nothing went wrong had no clue that it was a cast of thousands worldwide who made sure nothing went wrong!

Yes, and what was so interesting is how the computer and food companies had a bust out year or two afterwards. Think so many spent up front money on computer upgrades and emergency food storage prep. Son has a software biz and it was low business wise for a few years after. Boomed before and "feast or famine" cycle hit.
