Yard statues-big ones, little ones, lots of them, some of them, how do you feel about yard statues

The yard statue bug bit my husband and myself 2 years ago.

Two large cows, a small cow, several chickens, a chicken riding a tricycle, a couple goats, five dogs in various poses, a couple of frogs. and a bird with a fish in its mouth. I might have missed a couple. In addition, a small memorial garden dedicated to those who have served.

A Marine for him, a WAC for me, a kind of gravestone, two angels, a monk, and a couple of others. Too cold to go outside and check. So I asked him, since we have a little extra money this month, should we add the Air Force guy we have been wanting?

How many yard statues are too many? Why do I love them so much? The daughter collects frog yard statues. My son has a few gnomes. Is this a disease? A genetic disorder?

Lol, is it too early to go to the garden center, and look for yard statues? What statues do you have-in your yard or in your house? Do you love them?

I’m not much of a yard statue person. I have one small cherub angel that sits next to the rose bush I planted on the one year anniversary of my husband’s death.

Its been sitting there for about 14 years now..a little weather beaten but not much.

I think that we have a toadstool and a frog, along with a couple of birdbaths. That's it as far as yard decorations. We used to have a couple of derelict cars out behind the shed but had them towed away a few years ago. :D

No I don't really like too much clutter in the garden ( yard)... we have some hanging plants pots around the fences and larger plants pots around the borders.. .. and we've also got a marble water fountain, but really we don't like to have anything more, because our garden is full of mature trees and shrubs, ...that's enough

This sounds like a real yard full of "clutter". What do your neighbors think of all this junk?? Have you ever watched the TV show called "Hoarders"?

Years ago, I had a lovely St. Francis statue in my yard, his hands holding a small bowl that I kept filled with birdseed. One day I came home and his head was missing. Nowhere to be found. A headless St. Francis isn't my cup of tea, so I buried the rest of him. I'm not sure if that's the thing to do with religious statuary, but it seemed the least offensive way to go.

Sad. I really enjoy looking at them. My neighbor liked the chickens so much he went and bought some. Some of our neighbors have real chickens and stupid roosters.

No, it's not cluttered. Lots of empty space. I am no longer strong enough to do a vegetable garden. We have a big yard not a postage stamp yard. We have a retaining wall with a two foot space for plants. Except on one side which has a five foot space. They are mostly placed within the plants and amoung the roses.

The two cows are the ones siting in the large side yard. I just moved most of them to the back. As we will go on vacation in a couple of month to Disneyland. My neighbors like them. Someone already asked where the little dog is. I guess it depends on what area your are living in.

Lots of homes here have them. They give the birds a place to sit, lol. I don't have trees, can't rake.

We only have one small garden gnome holding a lantern in our yard, you can see the small red thing under the spruce tree.

That would be fun in the corner of a garden for a toddler... a grown Ups house.. no way!!!!..they have some issues in that house I think...LOL

Yep! If it’s the Same house I’m thinking of, it used to be a beige color I think..never cared for it then either but it was a well known house.

It did have great view though..kind of by itself high on a hill.

If anyone from that area sees this...am I thinking about the same house?? :)

I haven’t flown out of SFO in a few years so not sure.

Should ask my daughter...she has.

like the small type that blends into garens not big ugly statues -i have a concrete water stand with white dove on it ' stands under the big willow tree on the lawn .

Yes,it`s the same house,CeeCee.The "Flintstone House". I watched it being built back in the 70s and drove past it every day on my way to work when we still lived in the Bay Area. It was originally a light beige color, then went to a terra cotta color. Now this. All of the "yard art" has only been added recently. I think this woman is trying to piss off her snooty neighbors for some reason lol. And they don`t come much snootier than Hillsborough,CA.

This house has had lots of problems over the years. Leaking and cracking mostly. Every so often the newspapers would run an article about it. A friend of mine from grammar school just said yesterday that she and her husband tried to buy it once but were beat out by someone with all cash. I told her I think they lucked out!

Thanks, I thought it was the same house but wasn’t 100% sure.

I`ve never heard of there being another one like it. And even though I think these owners have gone a little crazy with it,I don`t think their neighbors really even see it-unless they drive by on the freeway. It sits along the 280 freeway,as you know. But all of those Hillsborough homes are on larger parcels and there are lots of oak trees,so I doubt that they see it. On the other hand, there could be lots of traffic driving by to see the front of it. That would irritate me too.

We have a bird bath and a base of one with no top. I put a planter on that one. I have 2 hand carved doves that my Grandpa made in the 50's I repaint them every year. They go on a post where I hang flowers. We have 2 cement benches. One in the front that I put a planter on off to one side and one in the back in the garden. A pottery strawberry planter on the front porch that I plant with Hens and Chicks . I Just recently added an old rocker on the front porch and on the seat I have my Dads old metal lunch box opened with artificial flowers. We have an acre of property so the items are spread out enough so it doesn't look to busy.

Yes, it sits all by itself and only visible from the freeway.

I haven’t talked to my daughter today so I’m curious if she’s seen it...I know she’s been to the SF area recently...I haven’t.

Im pretty sure my youngest grandsons in Illinois would want to live there:)

We have one terra cotta frog who spends his summers sitting among the hostas beside the back porch. My wife bought him many years ago. Quite a nice chap, really.

We don't really need statues - we have a lot of wildlife. Just a half hour ago I looked out the window and there were six very large whitetail deer in the back yard. They were grazing next to a dry stone wall about 25 yards behind the house. Our six acres is surrounded by several hundred acres of conservation land. Always lots of critters.
