Yeah, we did drugs in the 60s & 70s.

I posted a thread where I hinted in a very round about way at drug use in the 60s & 70s. But nobody replied. When I wrote that I was talking about drug use, well, people started chiming in. They said start a new thread about drugs in the 60s & 70s. Yeah, most of us tried some stuff. The statute of limitations is way past. And considering our medical problems and meds, it's way cheaper to keep us out of prison.:)
BTW Maybe each generation dabbles in their own type of drugs? Kind of like each generation has its own music?

I agree. Certainly my son's generation were big fans of exctasy. I believe they also still enjoy the old favourites, acid, weed, mushrooms. Mushrooms grow wild here. Lol. Mescaline I have not seen in decades. That was my drug of choice! Oh how I enjoyed listening to led Zeplin on that stuff!

Oh yes Dancing Bears and anything...even Kenny Rodgers. I posted on the other thread. Microdot was much fun and easy tripping. My own demons and smoke n'coke made it worse. But microdot and you just drifted to creative places...nothing scary. X was after my time but I probably would have been a happy camper.

I didn't do many, and I didn't do much of what I did do. Pot, yeah. Hash. Mescaline once (that was my chicken version of LSD). Speed, once. No hard drugs. I did it simply because I wanted to see what it was like, not because "everyone else" was. Not everyone I knew was.

I have had friends who have done the hard drugs, as well as pot; they are younger than me and it seems a whole different culture, from what they have told me. I think the '60s were a whole ten-year world, the music, the politics, the drugs ... and maybe despite the worst of '69, some of the rest of the '60s carried over into the very early '70s, but the '80s were a totally different world.

I never took ecstasy. I was an adult by then, but hallucinogens can be dangerous. I smoked weed laced with angel dust and almost caused a car accident for the guy driving the car I was in at the time. I was sure I saw barricades across the road and he wasn't seeing them. I grabbed the wheel and pushed it and he pushed back like he wanted to hit the barricades. He drove through them and when I turned around, I realized I'd been hallucinating. That was close. I did take LSD and mescaline a few times. The visuals were amazing. I think drugs explain why the art of the '60s was so incredible. There's been nothing like it since.

Pot and speed were my drugs of choice. In fact I told my son what I wanted for my last birthday (April 25th) was to get seriously high on pot again. He said he would get it and we would do it together. Well, he has the product waiting for me but I have been too busy since then to visit him. :badgirl:

I smoked grass at work. My buddy talked into smoking. One of the dumbest things I ever did. It seemed that I was working a 24 hour shift. It just never seemed to end.
It's surprising I smoked then. I didn't like to smoke grass because when I did, I lost any sense of consequences. Years before, I was in the Navy, stationed in NYC at the time. Got high and thought it would be a fun thing to do was jump in front of the brand new "F" subway train. They were cool looking trains. After I did that, well, I don't know, I guess I'd take the subway home. I suppose you spotted the flaw in my thinking. So, I stayed away from grass. Strange thing, I have a severe spinal condition, and I'm on drugs most addicts would kill for. Yet, I don't get high from them at all.

Did the usual psychedelics, but its all over now, baby blue and not living in a time warp. Fun at times, not so much at others.

Just be really careful not to do too much, Gail. When we've been away from drugs a long time our bodies lose their tolerance and a hit that used to just feel good can be way too much. Please don't let the idea of "seriously high" turn serious on you.

I was too young to do drugs in the 60s but I did in the 70s. Like I've said it before I tried everything. My favorites at first were speed and crank. I used to clean house like crazy and lose weight until I did too much speed one day and couldn't do it any more because it ruined my nerves. I liked qualudes, pot, lsd, thc. Tried heroin and would have got addicted to it if I had any money to buy it. Someone turned me on to it once. So I couldn't afford to buy any. Tried sleeping pills and tranquilizers. I liked anything that would take me away from reality which was glum. Now I am on a variety of medicines prescribed for me. I wish the other ones were prescribed for me! lol

I had Xanax once or twice...hits you like a train. However for an unusually trying time that's not such a bad thing. We're also talking about chemicals for recreation. I went to the doc some years ago and they prescribed Adderall for ADHD. I came to find out later that BiP and ADHD can look so similar that even experts have trouble hitting the right diagnosis. Speed for someone prone to mania...nope it's not pretty. Fortunately when I was a teen real speed was hard to find. The over the counter diet stuff was bad enough.

I didn't do any drugs. But when I was in my 30s, I got into an argument about pot with my BIL, who smoked it 3, 4 times a day, maybe more. I told him that's why he lacked ambition. So we argued about it, then he said "Don't knock it til you try it." So I did, for 3 days.

I won that argument, imo.

You not only had to cope with the effects of drugs on you, but also on your buddies. Dave is a short, scrawny guy. But add grass and he's going to take on the world. In a bar, I went to the john; when I came back, he's yelling at me that "we're going to take them all on". The "them" was the university's wrestling team. Ya know, the kind of guys whose knuckles drag on the ground. Grabbed Dave and ran like hell.

Never knew anyone that got froggy after smoking, but I guess it takes all kinds. I had a friend that would get his azz whupped regularly, but due to alcohol.

yeah, Dave had a lot of 'secret' issues. His mom was in a mental institution. Divorced with a daughter. Broke. No girlfriend .One night we were totally toasted. He made me promise that whatever he told me I would never tell a living soul. I got scared, I really thought he was going to confess to a murder. He whispered that he was Jewish, because his mother was Jewish, even though he was raised Catholic. For God's sake, I used to live in Forest Hills and Rego Park in NYC. At that time, they had more Jews per square inch than Tel Aviv. BTW, He had been my roommate for two years, then we were good buds for 3-4 more years, before he told me his "shocking" news. And also I'm an atheist, so.........

This thread sounds a bit familiar, I probably saw your other thread but forgot to add my 2¢ worth....did a ton of stuff* in a five year period between age 16 and 21. I was trying to get serious about being successful in college, so I got away from my dopey friends(getting high buddies).

* stuff=pot, uppers, downers, psychedelics, etc.

I might also point out soft drugs and hard drugs. Micro-dot was not like LSD. There were people into Heroin and "Angel Dust" even in the 60's and 70's. Even among users you knew those folks might not have too long.
