Yellow Plastic Covering the back of my PO Box

Today when I went to get my mail at the post office, I noticed a piece of yellow plastic across the back and of the box (looks like the photo attached, but yellow instead of red) . I would have asked at the window, but the line was so long. Anyone know what the yellow plastic means?

Did you have mail in your box at the time?

What it looks like to me is when I box is no longer in use they usually would "plug" them to prevent mail from being accidentally delivered to it. If someone moves, or fails to renew their box on time, or the mail is on hold, etc. Lots of reasons. In my day they were cardboard, but no reason they wouldn't be plastic. As for the color, don't know. I'd call them and ask just in case to avoid a disruption of your mail delivery.

Deb,

Please check with the post office and give us a report.

My first thought was that it is an attempt to force a customer to come to the counter to pick up mail and speak with an employee.

Perhaps because the box rent is due.

Our post boxes are rent-free here, so it can't be that.

I will have to inquire the next time I have to go there, but since there is only one clerk and she has to sort mail and also wait on the counter, there is usually a long line even in this small community. However, it is larger than the smallest PO in America in Ochopee, FL.

NOW, i would demand to know what it was and why it was there. "in these unprecedented times", every thing is suspicious!

Hmmm. Maybe the OP actually DID get that million dollar check all those spam emails promise. Maybe that would require special handling. :)
