Not in my County but bordering it. It started right near the current fire but it`s not part of it. This one has spread like crazy-started Saturday afternoon and has already burned over 44,000 acres. They say it is burning over 1,000 acres per hour. Sheesh.

This is a pic of a casino/hotel that is out in a very remote area where there fire started. I would be getting out of there!

The weather predictions for California are not good. Not only are there extensive areas of overly dry forests and brush, but the winds are predicted to be stronger than normal. This could lead to hot sparks traveling for quite a distance and starting even more fires. One of the commentators on the Weather Channel said that this year has the potential to be the worst in decades.

The news just showed that there is an evacuation going on in northern CA due to fires (on a tape that runs across the bottom of the screen). Is that for the county next to yours? Btw, that photo you posted is something else!

Unfortunately, lower-cost communities are often sited in rural areas that are wildfire hazard zones. It's true in other states as well; there's a very serious drought in the Southwest.

It's a risk rural residents have to acknowledge. The weather patterns very long-term have shown that the West is mostly high desert plateau, thus very prone to major wildfires. Always has been, and always will be.

Heavy population growth has disadvantages, some of which aren't always immediately recognized.

Frightening photo Mrs. R., very upsetting to be so close to that fire. I wouldn't blame you for wanting to move from that area knowing the wildfire history. Please stay safe! There's numerous wildfires burning right now in Colorado too, not too close to me thankfully, but the air quality is going down and when we were just out camping we could see the smoke across the mountains. Fire is so scary. :(

Aw MAN!
Some of the Forest Fire personnel are -- again -- stationed here in our county this Summer; between 101 and the beach is -- relatively speaking -- the "safest" area and from here they are positioned to coordinate work on southern Oregon and northern California zones. Btw, God never made a bad looking fireman...nice for the younger ladies around here ;)
Stay safe Mrs. R !!!

Yes,the area of the fire last week that is still going had evacuations last week and then,as the fire moved East, they allowed residents to move back home. Then,on Saturday, the fire broke through the containment (it was pretty windy and 105 degrees out) and they had to evacuate again. Then the new area that caught fire on Saturday has people evacuated as well. Most of that smoke is drifting down to the SF Bay Area,so we aren`t suffering with it as bad as we did last year.

On Friday night we went to the concert in our city park (which we do every Fri. night in the summer) and several big trucks of firefighters drove by to see what was going on.(They are camping at our fairgrounds) As they drove slowly by,we gave them a standing ovation. They were all waving at us,then parked their trucks and joined in on the dancing. It was pretty cool.

We need Rain badly here too. It's been very hot here for weeks, and everything is parched ...hose pipe ban is due any day now unless it rains soon.

In the Midlands and up north there's been a few wild fires here too...almost unheard of in the north because the here in the south is the hottest part of the country, yet we rarely get wildfires either...

Today it's much cooler and less humid.. with a high of 80 degrees, but we need Rain!!!
