And, could you tell me what the big deal about yoga is that could make it better than a good martini...

I tried a yoga class for a few weeks...the poses hurt and no...being in my own mindfulness is much too unsettling. Better for me is my MP3 player and sweating and panting after walking 6-8 miles.

Yoga is a practise like any other, that gets easier as you put in the time folks. One time accomplishes nothing if there isn't a second and a third and.....

I started doing yoga about ten years ago and while I really should be more consistent than two or three times per week, it's wonderful for helping you get stronger and more flexible and more balanced. I've even found that when you do those big arm rotations, the gravelly, grinding noise that I used to hear in my shoulders isn't there any more. Tells me that the lack of movement can allow probably calcium deposits to take up housekeeping in our joints and regular yoga and movement can reduce and eliminate it.

Regarding the balance thing, that's a serious problem for us oldsters and regular yoga helps your stability so there's less likelihood of falling and breaking a hip.

I hate going to classes (tried that for about two years) but I have a fabulous yoga video and I've used it so many times that I don't watch but following the teachers words, I can happily flow through the movements. And Ralph, it never leads to a second, then third martini, followed up by a headache and dehydration;).

I do yoga five times a week for twenty minutes each time. I follow Rodney Yee on a DVD. Like with sex, if it hurts you're doing it wrong. And as a matter of fact I took a Yoga exercise class in college. After about three weeks I found that I was definitely more horny. When I talked to the professor about it, she said that it's because the yoga rebalances everything, and no, it wasn't my imagination. Cool. I do yoga because it's mellow. It's not like regular exercises that you do to feel the burn. It's gentle, and you increase your practice gradually. At this age I want to make sure I can continue to physically do the things I want to do. A martini does not do that.
