You Ever Shop the Thrift Stores?

I don't trust the clothing most of all. But bedding too.

I wash the clothes with Lysol Laundry Sanitizer and Tide, then a second time with just Tide. I don't buy bedding at thrift stores. I don't usually buy dishes and stuff, but if I do, I wash it with Dawn, soak it in a 10% Clorox solution, let it dry, then wash it again.

I won't buy upholstered furniture (bedbugs), but clothes and kitchen stuff can be washed and even sterilized.

I like secondhand stuff if it is something I need. I think it prevents a lot of things from going to landfills. I've found some bargains on eBay, too. Like a perfect condition Pendleton wool shirt. They sell for $169-$269. I got my perfect shirt, in colors I love, for $25. I wear it a lot in the winter.

Everytime I drop of a box of stuff, I make a quick trip through the store to see if there is something that I need. Over the years I have purchased a number of items.

Ms. Ussername does. She has a "honey hole" located in a Richie (race teams, Nfl, Nba) rich town not far away . I think she scored a cricket ? new in box for 20 bucks once. They must be expensive cause she was pumped.

When my youngest granddaughter comes to stay, we play dress-up, so we dig into a jar and pull out a piece of paper with a year on it, after researching fashions online, we hit the thrift shops, it is so much fun.

Yes, regularly...Value Village and the Thrift (Sally Ann) store - mostly for used books and the odd dish. I used to buy clothing but now that I can't try it on, I don't bother anymore. I have a couple of other used books store I go to.

Pre-pandemic, I always shopped Goodwill and one other thrift store. Now, having recently had Covid, I'm a bit worried about all the touchy-feely handling of items that happens. Just last night, I was looking around my house and admiring all the treasures that I found there. Yep - I decorated in Early Goodwill. And, I'm proud of my stuff!

Before I moved here, I enjoyed thrifting, but here, I can't find clothes that fit, nor much else in good enough shape to justify the price tag.

A lot of what I get is kitchen ware, cookbooks and linens. Every once in a while I might find a jacket, hat or scarf. I am also big on estate sales for the same items. Prices these days are nuts on cookware and linens. The cookbooks, I am mostly looking for those published by school and church fund raisers. They have the best tried, true and simple. That being said don't come down here and take my things. LOL

I did years ago, but have not in a while. We have both a Goodwill and a Salvation Army here. I have not been to the stores here yet, but would like to soon. I was telling a friend about something I was looking to buy and he suggested looking at Goodwill before paying retail.

Glad to see all the thrifters in this thread. And that was a really good deal on those shoes. We don't have the bins anywhere around here.

But as I've mentioned lucky to have PAWS and the long established shop near downtown. Both volunteer run with good prices.

I don't blame anyone who doesn't like to shop thrift. I keep things in the car until I can wash them and inspect things closely but I guess it could always be a bug risk.

And yes, you can really save on books. Although I bought one cozy mystery book and that bargain book caused me to purchase the whole series new.

I do have a good sized used book store here that I frequent. And there is thriftbooks.com for even more variety. I go through a LOT of books.
