You know those Catfish/romance scams out there?

The ones you hear a lot about on Dr Phil and other shows? I used to be skeptical that those things really happen. But over the past months or so, sometimes when I post a message in a group on Facebook (no particular one, just several) I will get athis response...Different users, with little on their profile and very vanilla pictures.
I have my profile set that I can only get friend requests from Friends of friends

But this is word for word the same message I always get: I always block the sender of the message. Bit a bit freaky

I'm really much impressed by your profile and the post you share on here, I don't normally write in here, but I think you deserve this compliment. I have been trying to send you a friend request, but it's not going through. Can you please send me a friend request if you don't mind? I would love to be friends with you.

It is everywhere a person may be able to post etc.....
I personally just ignore or block odd requests on some sites but so many seem to fall into it ........and as you clearly posted it often sounds like a form letter .... hoping someone takes the bait.

...and you can still tell that whoever sent that doesn't have English as their first language
I actually get all kinds, tho none of them are smart enough to actually make comments relevent to the posts i've made that they're pulling this BS on.

I've also had men, before i changed privacy settings, who got verbally abusive when i shut down their comeons, and ones who were clearly actually hoping to find some lonely gal that would be willing to.play nursemaid to.him just to not be alone. And this when i have posted repeatedly that i am happily single, absolutely NOT looking for romance.

What I see are these flashy woman commenting on a facebook classic car group. I am guessing they are fishing for men that will message them, with that escalating to blackmail or perhaps pay per view. Probably being run by some fat old man in a Russian basement! The profiles never consist of anything but a few photos.

Some time ago, a nice looking woman sent me 16 photos of herself. A couple were in her bikini. Nice body! In the next letter she called me "honey" and told me that she was in the Ukraine in L'viv. Unfortunately, she said she "lost" her passport and all her money. Could I help her out? I had a great laugh on that one since I believe if you believe that kind of letter, you probably believe anything. "Honey", indeed! LOL

I hate it when I get friend requests from people already my friends. I just opened a new FB account and tried to migrate friends from old account to new account. I don't know who I requested friends with so when someone sends me a request if I know them I accept. The problem is the requests are not authentic and usually trying to sell me something.

I clean out my junk messages on fakebook from time to time and it is full of those kind of messages from men. Always in the military overseas or doctors, very good looking in front of a fancy house or car. Nobody can comment on my posts unless they are a friend or send me a message so I am not bothered with them as much as some of my friends.

The trouble with social media is that it is opened to everyone. Everyone means nice people who like to communicate with family, old friends, distant relatives and just talk to friends of all kinds. Everyone also includes perverts, child porn lovers, dating rip-off artists, pro Nazis types and con men of all kinds. Con women too; I guess. It takes some real common sense who figure out who is who.

I get those also - just ignore them.
