Thinking back to my last train ride, which was Nebraska to California in 2009.
Left Nebraska at 2 a.m. and arrived 39 hours later in California.
This was on the California Zephyr, early November.
I traveled alone, as I had just left my job for the move to Tennessee and the wife stayed behind
and would fly out to join me later. (visiting my parents in California).
I enjoyed it so much, we both took the train back to Nebraska weeks later.
My coach seat was very comfortable and settled in till sunrise listening to music, looking out the window.
Since it was a vacation of a sort, I'd planned on eating a lot of my meals in the formal dining car.
Food was good, (especially breakfast) and service great.
I spent most of my time in the observation car and the part through the Rocky Mountains was a high point.
(it snowed and the scenery was breathtaking)
Just checked and they still have the dining car on that route.
We are talking about flying out to Omaha to visit friends and then catch the Zephyr to California to visit my brothers.
(I have a thing about trains and never missed a chance to ride one, be it Europe, the UK and even in Africa).
Back to the reason for the thread, Train songs. Some that I listened to on my trip.
