Being in SF has been such a learning experience for me. I never knew anyone in London would have any interest whatsoever in our country and western music, let alone some of my favorite singers.
you know if you spoke to the classic Country western singers like merle haggard, like Willie N , Like Jim Brown and the Browns.. like jean Sheppard, Billie Jo Spiers they will tell you that their biggest fan base was always in the UK.. and in many cases, if it hadn't have been for their tours here for their fans , their Careers would have been over before they really got started....in the USA
I remember one of the old time country musicians I think it was Jeanie Seely or Skeeter Davis who said that the most knowledgable Country music fans are British...
Country music has always been Enormously popular in the UK, especially with Scotland and Ireland .. it was sung everywhere, in pubs clubs, and even at weddings sometimes.. by the fans...
Sadly now, it's not qute as popular as it once was, the new breed of Country singers haven't really hit the spot with the British fans as their forebears did...
Even, Glastonbury music festival traditionally for anything BUT country music... had 180,000 fans turn out for Dolly in 2014 when she played day 3 on the Pyramid stage....she went down a storm....
