Your first car

I had a 1968 Chevy Corvair, the car demonized by lawyer and consumer advocate Ralph Nader in his book, Unsafe at Any Speed. I bought the car myself in 1971 with $1,000 scraped together from summer jobs. My mother was so worried about the car's safety concerns that she nagged me into selling it after only a year. Called the "American Volkswagon," the car had its air-cooled engine in the rear. Mine was yellow like the one pictured, and you always love your first car...

A friend of mine had one with the push-button gear selector on the dash.

My dad had a Corvair years ago. Not sure what the year was.

1953 Chevy. My parents drove me out to my first job in Columbus, Ohio. They left the car with me (bless them) and flew home. I subsequently drove to the west coast. When I got a job offer overseas, I drove the car back to New york and sold it.

my mom had an 87 crown vic, looked nothing like this.

I was living in NYC. A car in the city is a hassle and a half, so I didn't have one. My mom called and gave me my younger brother's car- a Plymouth Rebel. I don't know what happened. I supposed my parents co signed for the car, and my brother, a teenager, didn't keep up the payments. Something like that. But heck, free is free. I never got to ask my brother to explain the bullet hole.

Certainly was ugly, but, they made a great race car and were definitely reliable. :)

Hey! Maybe that's my old Dodge!! :ROFLMAO:. That olive green is a definite improvement over the pink-ish beige that mine was. Gawd what a hideous color that was! But the push button tranny was unique and fun, as was the oval shaped steering wheel.
