Wow, I must have lived far in the boondocks... we wimps threw things like snowballs and had snowball fights. Rocks never entered my mind, but it may have come in handy a time or two!Only trouble all us guys got into was being late for class because we were having a rock fight. Picked up sides to throw rocks at each other. Must have been fun at the time, doesn't sound like fun now at my age.
Ah yes--the board of education applied to the seat of knowledge. For grade school I lived in a small town. Our school, the principal had a large wooden paddle hanging on his wall. If you were sent to see the principal by a teacher, you were at risk of getting swats. Also, if two boys got into a fight in school, you would have to 'trade swats' in the office and if you didn't hit the other guy hard enough, the principal would give you a swat. I speak from experience on both counts.
In high school I was in a much larger town, and I never had any problems. But I know some who did. If you were sent to the principal in high school, you were expelled for a time and your parents had to come pick you up. I am really glad I did not get into trouble; my dad would have been much harder on me than the principal.
Reminds me of my cousins , 5 boys always fighting , so my aunt Sadie bought them all boxing gloves for their xmas presents, and told them to beat each other instead of fighting and squabbling with each other everyday … …they didn’t bother aggravating each other after that lolAh yes--the board of education applied to the seat of knowledge.
Speaking of trading swats, when I was about 9 my father bought boxing gloves for my brother and I--he was 7 at the time. He said, the next time you get into a fight, you are going to wear these and do it right. Sure enough, within a few hours, we put them on. Of course, then we didn't want to fight and there were tears as he swatted us into punching each other. That was the only time I ever recall donning the gloves. Don't know what ever happened to them.
