Your thought on animal testing

I'm glad the government is finally shedding some light on animal testing. I know animal testing has saved many lives in the past, but with modern technology, hopefully it will have changed where less and less animals are being used. Years ago, a guy I was dating worked at the Purdue labs. He'd go home mortified thinking about the torture the lab animals went through. In his case. they were dogs. He didn't stay at that job long being an animal lover like he was.

I don't like the alternative...

Surely no one wants to back to testing on humans.
I'm not a chemist by any means, but you would think with the AI technology they have they could use it for a good purpose such as this. I did ask my phone if AI could take the place of animal testing and it said....
No. AI cannot completely replace animal testing yet, but it is a promising alternative, that when combined with other technologies like human based models and organoids, can significantly reduce reliance on it. AL excels at analyzing large datasets to predict a substances behavior, but it is not yet a complete substitute for the complexity of live organisms.
At least there's hope. Maybe not in my lifetime, but somewhere in the future.

Testing on animals should be the very last resort. I'd not ban it totally. If it's the ONLY way to get the data, then humans are an apex predator. But before we get to it being the ONLY way, we should ensure that alternatives aren't available.

Oh, AI will have a major impact on drug research for sure. Think ten years from now, and AI will minimize animal testing for sure.

I should also note, I'd limit animal testing to new drugs and treatments. I'd ban it for cosmetics.

Any minimalization is better than nothing. There are a lot of cosmetic companies out there that don't test on animals anymore. Thanks goodness! If consumers would read the labels of cosmetic products and only buy the ones that don't use animals for testing, all of the other cosmetic companies would have to follow suit or their business would fold. I'm sure that's not realistic but it's something to strive for.

How many combinations of ingredients can be used in cosmetics? By now, they should have all been tested and already in use for years.
You’d think so, yet they’re always coming out with a new miracle that I can have for a few lot of dollars.

You do make a good point about the need to post the regular ingredients. Fear of lawsuit if something goes wrong?

Testing on innocent animals is barbaric. I will not buy anything that has been tested an any animal. I am a wool spinner using sheep's wool, and there is a long time process used on the butt area of a sheep called mulesing. The wool is shaved down to the skin around the anus so the area doesn't get crappy and clotted with feces. This makes less work for the shepard during the lifetime of the sheep and after shaving so cleaning a fleeece is easier and better selling.

It s very uncomfortable for the sheep causes bleeding and open sores. Now most wool growers need to post whether they do it or not. I will not buy the wool and neither will most ethical spinners. Hopefully the procedure will end.

Then you best never take any medications or medical treatments because testing likely involved lab animals.

I will say animal testing is nothing I'm a fan of, but I see the necessity.

Why are animal lives any less than humans? People don't understand that pain inflicted on any sentient being is still pain. If humans need/want he drug or procedure, then test it on humans! I don't use makeup or eat meat, nor take any meds tested on animals.

a person's character, compassion, and strength are revealed through their actions toward animals. This is because treating animals with kindness, empathy, and respect is seen as an expression of a person's true inner self.
