After 7 yrs in retirement we decided to go down to one car. Gave both older (well maintained) cars away and went for comfort, power, and handling. Ford Edge Sport, didn't need a third row seat and at the time there were not a lot of 2-row SUVs - there are more now, I think.
After test driving several different brands of SUVs, it was a decision between the Lincoln MKZ and the Ford Edge Sport. They are essentially the same SUV but aimed at very different drivers.
I absolutely loved the MKZ's level of quiet. It was AMAZING. Seats were 5-star comfortable.
But I had to go with the Edge Sport. The handling of both SUVs is outstanding. But the MKZ had no roadfeel aka 'feedback', at all. It was like one of those old 1950 Cadillacs - utterly dead. The car went precisely where you aimed it, but it just wasn't......fun. It was like steering a robotic horse. It did exactly what you told it to do, but there was no feeling of engagement with the vehicle.
The Edge Sport, however, gives up some of that quiet for a much better road feel/feedback. Despite its size and weight, it can be slung around on curvy backcountry roads a lot faster than any of the other SUVs I tried.
I nixed the sunroof (useless, I hate the sun, and eventually they leak) in favor of the technology package, which was the same price. Very definitely worth it - the new safety features are great. After a while you can't imagine not having the front/back cameras (many new cars now have the 360-degree view; I would have liked that!) and blind spot warning.
And it's the prettiest color, too - a metallic caramel brown. Love my car!
