Your Vehicle?

After 7 yrs in retirement we decided to go down to one car. Gave both older (well maintained) cars away and went for comfort, power, and handling. Ford Edge Sport, didn't need a third row seat and at the time there were not a lot of 2-row SUVs - there are more now, I think.

After test driving several different brands of SUVs, it was a decision between the Lincoln MKZ and the Ford Edge Sport. They are essentially the same SUV but aimed at very different drivers.

I absolutely loved the MKZ's level of quiet. It was AMAZING. Seats were 5-star comfortable.

But I had to go with the Edge Sport. The handling of both SUVs is outstanding. But the MKZ had no roadfeel aka 'feedback', at all. It was like one of those old 1950 Cadillacs - utterly dead. The car went precisely where you aimed it, but it just wasn't......fun. It was like steering a robotic horse. It did exactly what you told it to do, but there was no feeling of engagement with the vehicle.

The Edge Sport, however, gives up some of that quiet for a much better road feel/feedback. Despite its size and weight, it can be slung around on curvy backcountry roads a lot faster than any of the other SUVs I tried.

I nixed the sunroof (useless, I hate the sun, and eventually they leak) in favor of the technology package, which was the same price. Very definitely worth it - the new safety features are great. After a while you can't imagine not having the front/back cameras (many new cars now have the 360-degree view; I would have liked that!) and blind spot warning.

And it's the prettiest color, too - a metallic caramel brown. Love my car!

I've had two Toyota Camrys and loved them both. Dependable, good gas mileage and great back support. Put >250,000 on the first and am pushing 200,000 on this one.

Mine is what is called "a real beater" or AB Car. Gets me from Point A to Point B. When I hit the Lottery I'm going to get a Chrysler Jeep Cherokee....

I'm very fortunate in that I'm in the position of always being abe to pay for my cars in cash . I remember years ago having to buy them on HP.. seemed always to take forever to pay them off

I have A Mercedes GLA......
Bought it last year......
Hubbys choice, Im just the Driver....🥴
It was strange driving it at first,as it has no handbreak, and the gears are just under the indicator, but getting used to it now......

The sad thing about paying in full holly , is that as soon as you drive it out of the showroom, it loses value.....🙁

A vehicle loses value regardless. Autos are investments of depreciating value. My first 3 cars had loan payments. Being young and foolish, I changed cars every 2 years, so I loss money. Then I had a period of time with company cars. Afterwards, I always paid cash for my vehicles. I bought my current CRV new 15 years ago so no monthly payments all that time.

Old cars cost money....I lease our cars now,.....so no garage repairs or fees,or Mot.... just need the insurance and get to drive a new car every few years....this suits me ..!

I've never leased a car and when I looked it up it might cost more than buying. My car costs me about $140/month in 8 years and if I keep it for several more yrs it could go down to around $100/month instead. It probably cost more if I leased it. My previous one cost me about $70/month in 18 yrs. A leased or rental car worries me about dings, scratches, and minor damages. If these happen to my own car I'm not as much concerned because I can chose to leave it as is. This Consumer Report Comparison shows it would cost more to lease than buy

BuyLease
Total Paid After 6 Years$31,952$24,664 (two leases back to back, including two payments of $2,000 at signing)
Resale Value at Age 6$9,675$0
So in 6 yrs it would cost
$22,277$24,664
