While I appreciate it when generous friends and neighbors do, I don't like growing fruit because of all the vermin living along the creek on our norther border. Rat are nastier but squirrels do much the same mischief while generally sporting better hair. While I've taken out some I still have figs, apples, persimmons and plums. They also eat the rinds off the lemons in the winter. Here is one cheeky I took a photo of just the other day.

Yes a rambler called Kiftsgate named for the famous garden in England which maintains a huge one; I’ll look for and post a picture of theirs in a minute. I decided I didn’t want to bleed for it. ;)

Taken in July of 2008 by me. The others I took there can be found in this album: XVI. Kiftsgate Garden, UK, July 5th 2008
It's so unlike any rose bush I've ever seen, but I think it would work well in my yard. Thx

The flowers are individually smaller than most but appear in the thousands. I looked for a photo that showed the individual flowers better but I don't seem to have taken many like that. This is the best I could find.

But I bet it would work well for you. It has a reputation as a barn coverer. A spot where you can see it from a distance or come closer but not be under any pressure to prune it would be best. Not a repeat bloomer, needless to say. One big flush in June into summer for me.

Oh yes, this pic def captures the look of the rose w/those petals.
I like all the close clusters of flowers like that.

Grass Trees

Like nearly everyone else I know who gardens here I love those. The best stand of them I've seen here were in Ojai, California south of Santa Barbara at the Taft Botanical Garden. You really have a wonderful range of plants down your way.

They must be terribly delicate because you rarely see them anywhere here, not even at the Santa Cruz arboretum which has a wonderful Australian collection.

I do love our Grass Trees. Xanthorrhoea preissii.
Especially when flowering on spikes that can reach 4 metres - 13 feet.
Thousands of flowers per spike. Some Grass Tree live for 600 years.

further up the south coast from my DD is our home in the Valencia region... more arid ... but on almost every roundabout there is a violet show of flowers...attended to on a daily basis for survival by community gardeners...

Those pink flowers look like some kind of ice plant. It is a color so violent it seems like it might sprain your iris. I'm growing something like this but I lack the army of gardeners to keep it looking good. ;(
