Your Wardrobe

Bit by bit my closet has been replenished after post-retirement clean out with new items and I enjoyed buying and wearing these when going to events or even just shopping. My favourites were my clothes that I bought especially for travel. Since mid-March, the local events were cancelled & it was rushing to the store in my old clothes at 7 or 8 a.m. No weekly events. Even now, anything I do goes so quickly that I don’t wear it for more than one hour. Absolutely no trips. So my spring/summer wardrobe has sat there almost all unused & I just got out the fall/winter clothes. I doubt I’ll need to wear many of these as they’re hidden under my coat.

Anyone else have a barely used wardrobe?

Adding, I’m not sitting around in rags. I just don’t want to wear clothes that need special care or dry-cleaning around the house.

Getting dressed up always made me feel better. The ‘when you look good, you feel good’ philosophy.

i agree with you. My life now is all about me because I am alone. I've discovered I don't like dressing up and I don't like jewelry. My relationship to personal habits in connection with the physical world is dressing simply and comfortably, with dignity and grace.
But, I live in the West. Casual is the order of the day. I also threw out any clothing which reminded me of work or of pretence.
The rest of my life is going to be about FUN!

I recently had a good clean out of my dancing clothing which I buy from a upmarket / ladies clothing store .

Like all the ladies who dance , there is no such thing as a frilly / long dresses/ fancy / frilly tops even for the odd ball we have now days, most only wear a good quality comfortable top and a skirt .
I like most others wear a knee length jersey type fabric skirt ( most of the time ) cause they don’t crease

I had a few tops / skirts I’d never worn so when dancing started recently after a 6 month break I took a few tops to the dance and gave them away ,as well as taking some of the unworn clothing to the op shop I support because it doesn’t charge almost new prices:cautious: for second hand clothing / goods

I'm pretty much a jeans, shorts, t-shirt, polo shirt type of guy. For the occasions that I do need to dress up, I do have a few things to wear. I keep my winter clothes in a spare closet. I might have to break out my jacket and long sleeve shirt on Monday. It's supposed to rain and only be 70. The clothes in that closet don't get much use.

Yep absolutely...During our months of lockdown I felt exactly the same, and even tho' our lockdown has been lifted , I find because we're still being careful about any crowded restaurants or bars we really barely go out unless we can spend most of the time outside and therefore I keep my coat on.. so I'm lucky if I get to wear decent clothes ( not dressy up, just going out clothes) more than once a fortnight for just a few hours

I've dropped a lot of weight this year and don't know how much more will be coming off. After surgery {December} I should be another 15 pounds lighter. I have no idea what size I'll be when it's done. I'm waiting to buy any new clothes.

My husband volunteered to clean out my closet of all the larger clothes I could no longer wear. He's NEVER done that before and was surprised how long it took {4 hours}. We went through everything and piled the clothes on the bed that were 2 and 3 sizes too large. There was a mountain of things. It was it little sad saying goodbye to my favorite wardrobe items. He bagged them and took them to our favorite charity thrift store. He couldn't believe the effort involved.

Now my remaining clothes don't wrinkle because there is plenty of room for them. I'm trying to keep some basic items that will see me through the next few months. I don't go anywhere, so I just need a few items to wear around the house and a few items to go to doctors/clinics.

I know some day I'll be able to rebuild my wardrobe. Maybe I'll do a better job of it this time.

We both, wife and I, have pairs of Wrangler brand jeans and shorts. She has a couple of dresses, but no longer wears them. Prefers to wear her Wrangler jeans. After she fell in Florida, going to a job interview, we got rid of all of her high heels and only kept a few pairs of pumps.

Since moving back to Colorado, both of us now wear our cowboy hats at times. Cowboy hats are much more acceptable where we currently live, northern Colorado, than they were in Florida.

Yup
Cargo shorts and Wrangler shirt
But in summer, just the shorts/tank top
Or
Just the shorts

We both, wife and I, have pairs of Wrangler brand jeans and shorts.
Those are the only pants made, as far as I'm concerned
And Wrangler shirts, the blue ones

The beautiful thing about Wrangler Jeans......it's acceptable to wear them with a sport jacket, a black T, and casual shoes

Guess I don't have what you'd call a 'wardrobe'

My wife and I have both gone "full on casual." I find myself in sandals from late April through into November. All of my cloths that require ironing don't get worn. A dress-up occasion like going to the Doctor means that I shed the sweatshirt for a polo shirt and find some socks. Life is sure simpler now.

But getting rid of those expensive business suits is proving to be a bit painful, and I suspect that on some level I miss dressing up just a bit.

I am retired. My summer wardrobe is a t-shirt, shorts, and crocks. My winter wardrobe is t-shirt, Dockers, and sneakers. I live on the California Central Coast so I can get away with it. I still have my Antarctic Parka, which came in handy when @Kayelle and I did the Yellowstone in Winter trip.
For working on the switch engine, I have a pair of coveralls. When I was flying for Civil Air Patrol, I have a Nomex flight suit and jacket. When I was flying for Angel Flight I had a special polo shirt and cap.
I do have a suit and blazer for when we cruise, but it is deep storage right now because of the virus.

I threw out skirts and dresses years ago. I have a couple of nice dress pants and blouses. I have a small walk in closet so I just stick my fall and winter clothes in the front and shove spring and summer in the back. Takes about 20 minutes.
I wear really old clothes around the house until they are ready for the rag bag. Jeans for shopping and visiting which we haven't done for a long while.
I'm all about comfort these days.
I don't wear sweats because I would die with the heat. Just a couple of cardigans over simple blouses do it for me.
I still pull out the iron once in awhile, I hate wrinkled clothes even if I'm going shopping.

I live alone and I am normally in a wheelchair when I go out. I don't drive.

I regularly turnover everything in my wardrobe. I've got 3 or 4 silk brocade waistcoat which are regularly worn. I've got a couple of dozen silk ties. A dozen jackets in slacks,2 or 3 suits and drawers full of sweaters. A dozen pairs of shoes from Hush Puppies to chrome Oxfords.

The only time look like a slob is around the house when I wear corduroys I don't know what you call them in the states. Even with those one has to keep up the standards. I have pine green, bronze, and scarlet pairs!

I promised her I wouldn't turn into a slob when she went!

Well, yes there are nicer clothes for going out and visiting and travel, etc. etc. that I haven't worn this year but I am not getting rid of them. I fully expect to wear them next year. Seasonal clothes are rotated to another closet and stuff that don't fit anymore (I am still losing weight) will get sent to the Thrift store.

I wear all casual unless I have to go out. When I had my cardiology appointment I wore a pair of dress slacks with a new top from J. Peterman that I'd never had on before. I dug out my old Bass spectator penny loafers which looked like new and off I went. That's the most dressed up I've gotten since March. During the cold months coming up I live in cords. Love them and even have corduroy jackets and shirts.

I agree...I find now that I do miss getting dressed up ..even though it was a PITA at times to be dressed in a suit most of the time for work.. they were expensive suits, and they did look nice on me... so I kinda miss that

I love clothes, mainly wearing cool sleeveless dresses, or white linen crops with various tops in summer, winter I wear black jeans, or jeggings tucked into boots, with sweaters, at home I find velour leisure suits or leggings and tops most comfortable with soft house shoes

I used to agonise each season over which items to keep or give to charity shops until last year when I thought, ‘Just keep the lot’, so now, unless I really don’t want something, it goes in the appropriate wardrobe

I still wear earrings every day but stopped wearing rings due to all the hand washing/sanitising

I feel shabby and ugly. My summer shoes got so worn this year and I need new but cannot buy a shoe without putting my feet in them and cannot shop because there is a no mask no service law in my state and I can't wear a mask due to a medical condition.

My fall/winter wardrobe is much nicer, but I would prefer warmer weather as I've said before because I think it's better for the virus to be out in the fresh air. I don't know how to make this work, but I do have lots of nice coats and winter shoes and might buy a new fur hat for winter online and just hope it fits.
