Zinc

This post is directed more towards people who use or take Zinc. What dose do I buy, how often do I take it and is one time of the day better than another to take it? Thanks.

From everything I've read, zinc picolinate is the form of zinc, that is one of the easiest for the human body to utilize,
so I look for that.
(Zinc oxide is cheaper, but overall zinc is not expensive anyway, and the mineral oxides are not as similar to food grade)

Some people take 15 mg a day, while some
(notably males , and also those who want help with sleep or with fighting infections)
often take double that daily dose.

Minerals are often helpful to take in evening, or in divided doses, but I havent read much that says that matters too much.

I take my multivitamin usually with my first meal but sometimes I forget and take it with the second or third meal and it also contains zinc. It's important to take them with food. I take the Alive vitamin brand which is made from natural foods.

There is much good information on google about vitamins and minerals and my dr. told me I had informed myself well.

We take zinc gluconate...the most readily absorbed form of zinc for preventing colds and nasal issues. I break a 50mg tablet and half and we each take it daily. We take it with our main meal of the day.

I agree it's great to ask a doctor or nutritionist, if you have one who is interested and knowledgeable on it .

Some doctors, I found, have excellent info and answers, but many others are not good sources of info on these particular subjects, or do not focus on them at all.

I agree with an above poster that another human food quality type of zinc would be zinc gluconate, so I would personally take that option or a chelated zinc, if I didn't take the zinc picolinate I mentioned above.
