Zoo urges people to donate their unwanted pets to feed their predators

Humans kill unwanted children
In the United States, approximately 2,350 children die daily due to abortion. Since 1973, when Roe v. Wade legalized abortion, over 63 million abortions have been performed in the US. Globally, more than 32 million abortions occur annually.

I don't have a problem separating a loved pet from an animal [ dog cat, rats, gerbils, hamsters] that are unwanted & either abandoned or dropped off at a shelter. Those all could be euthanized due to space limits or funding.

Given the fact that dogs & cats even puppies are food for humans that have no problem with eating those. The Zoo gets attention for asking for unwanted pets. IMO asking for unwanted animals would not seem as cruel.
You found some very interesting information! I guess, it just boils down to the individual, it's voluntary, not mandated

What happens in the wild stays in the wild, what happens in the zoo should be an entirely different matter.

It seems to me that several years ago a zoo was criticized for solving overpopulation problems among small animals by feeding them to larger predators in the zoo.

I understand it but I wouldn’t support it.

I have a better idea...if the zoo can't afford to feed their caged animals the way they should be fed, then close and find other zoos that will take those animals.

I think this idea of donating your pets is insane. And, those that donate their pets should be banned from ever owning another animal!
Ding! Ding! Ding! Best answer.....

If the animals are being euthanised anyway - then I see no reason for them not to be then fed to other animals -in a zoo or as canned dog food or whatever.

How is it better to bury or cremate them?

How is it cruel? if it is animals that are being euthanised anyway and it is done humanely why is it cruel for them then to be food rather than buried or cremated?
Just seems pragmatic to me.

We are not talking about feeding the zoo animals live food.

Why is a human life given more consideration and importance than an animal's? Is it based on intelligence?

If so does that mean a smart person has more rights than an average or slow person?

In my humble opinion human beings with our so called superior intelligence should have more of an obligation to take care of animals.

While I understand that animals are a food source (not for me!) how does that give us the right to treat them so horribly?

To me and how I personally feel about the topic, it is cruel. I don't approve or like the overall concept.

Yes, I know we are not talking about feeding the zoo animals live food.

It remains an unwavering NO from me.
