Is anyone else or has anyone had to deal with their pets long term illness?

I have a cat who has a seizure disorder. She was put on phenobarbital until she had fewer and shorter seizures.

She now has only 2 or 3 seizures a day lasting no more than a few seconds, which is considered stable, so her medication was recently discontinued. She was having as many as 6 seizures every day, some of them lasting as long as a full minute. It was so awful for her I had to consider euthanasia.

She has learned to recognize when a seizure is coming on, and will run to the nearest safe place where she can't injure herself, or at least attempt to. I have made a "safe place" in every room, areas clear of furniture and anything else she might bang her head, spine, or ribs against.

She's a happy kitty now.
