Porn In A Public Library

I checked out the movie Caligula, who was the mad Roman emperor ruling from 37 to 41 AD. The opening credits showed the magazine Penthouse as the producer. That was the first clue.

As the movie progressed, it became clear what the movie was. It was pure, uncensored and raw porn of every description with explicit sexuality. For good measure, there were several scenes of sadistic torture and killing.

I’m not a prude. I have seen raw porn (only for research purposes of course 😇), and this movie was right up there.

I wonder if the library even knows about it. They certainly can’t read every book or watch every movie to see if it’s appropriate to put it on their shelf. If they think it’s OK I'm fine with it. Should I inform them or let it go?

We have Emmerdale and Coronation Street, far worse than that and it is on every night.

I've seen that movie. Decades ago. Porn is in the eye of the beholder. Yes, by all means try to get something banned in a library since librarians know nothing and banning is so popular these days.

Well, it was about Caligula. But still, it may not be appropriate for a public library. I haven't seen it.
No need to have seen it, this is a forum, have a ran't. Must have been mid 1970s as my neighbour had it and "Debbie does Dallas" which I expect you have seen. Not a porn watcher myself as it is boring, not that I live under a rock.

Aint it just, want me to tell you what happened to Germany's ladies football team in the previous World Cup?

If I'd have to guess, I'd say that they have *no* idea that a movie in that genre would be inappropriate. Definitely tell them. It has nothing to do with being a prude... more like a concerned citizen... it was a public library! @Chet

Second thoughts, watch it, you might enjoy the historical elements of the day.

I saw that movie years ago. It was publicized as being controversial for all its debauchery.

I enjoyed it back then and didn't find that it was nearly as bad as publicity had made it out to be.

The videos in a public library are in 2 different placed the children's section and the adult section.

If someone underage for that video tried to check it out, the librarian may be instructed to prevent it. Maybe when they scan it the computer screen pops up a reminder to verify age.

Nobody is trying to get it banned. I think just labelled correctly so kids don’t have to see stuff they shouldn’t at that tender age. It’s sounds perfectly logical to me. I wouldn’t want to see a movie mislabelled as PG when it’s x-rated.

What the hell is wrong with having films in a library properly censored? Chet seems like he could be old enough to be a parents but he was surprised. How would a parent know if it’s not labelled correctly? What’s pearl clutching got to do with labelling sexual content correctly?
Nothing!
Something tells me the librarian is already aware and approves and it's labeled correctly. Then what?
