At the risk of it going down like a lead balloon, but in the interests of inspiring some controversial discussion, I raise this thread. This subject has attracted hefty discussion on other Forums.

The paranormal comprises a wide variation of features - ghosts, poltergeists, the dreaded Ouija board, vampires, voodoo, zombies, seances, fortune telling, mediums, clairvoyants, imagination and many other kinds of unusual phenomena.

What are your thoughts on this subject ? Have you had personal experiences ?

What's not to believe?

"What we don’t understand, we fear. What we fear, we judge as evil. What we judge as evil, we attempt to control. And what we cannot control…we attack."

It could be either: 1. I don't believe because I haven't experienced it or 2. I don't experience it because I don't believe it. I tend to go with the last statement.

I have had paranormal experiences and just rack it up as my Guardian Angel watching over me. Mine were at a time I could not help myself and I was in dire danger of death or physical harm. All of these were generated from a mental thought. They are real to any persons who request help from the unexplained and not even reaizing it, but you cannot magically just use this power to better yourself monetary etc.. :yoda:

This is one of those subjects which divides people. If you have had experiences which to you are proof of the paranormal, then nothing will convince you otherwise. If you do not believe there is any other level of existence, nothing will convince you otherwise, either! (I think that makes sense)

Actually i think Lin, in post #8 got it right. And.....that has always been my stand on things like UFO's and should be here as well.

I think I'm just more open minded on things physical...and less so on things spiritual , and I should be open minded regarding all.

I do believe in Almighty God and resurrection through faith to eternal life. I personally don't find most of the things listed in John Bull's original post credible, but I do believe things in this life are not all entirely what they seem.

I've had a few experiences that were outside the "normal" range, but I think they had to do with a confluence of events in my life, and changes that were going on in my biochemical self. (FWIW, I'm not alluding to chemically altered states, here, as in drug use.)

I had a few with drug use in my stupid years, but when a person experiences a paranormal (Guardian Angel event etc.) you don't wonder was is, you know it. Many persons never talk about, I didn't for many years and then to just a few people. Most people think you are a little suspect if you tell them about your experience. If you are careful and stay aware you probably never will, but in life, SHIT HAPPENS......

The operative word is "believe". Those, who believe, don't need proof. At one time I was interested in the occult, it's quite easy to talk yourself into "believing". But the more I got into it, it was obvious all those 'incidents' were just plain ol' me.

Uh, what?????

The closest I ever came to the “boogie man” was when I was about 5.

That’s a looonnng time ago ,and I can see it as plain as day… still.

I was sleepin over at my Granny’s house, me and my sister.

Granny had a little dog named skipper that slept on the back porch. He started barking like crazy.

I woke up and saw something in the shape of …something similar to a tear drop, filled with multiple colors.

It came out from under the bed. It was about engulf the bed.

I immediately started to pinch my sister to wake her up..cause that’s what I used to do.

She didn’t see it ,but for some reason I will never forget it.

Not just seeing it but the feeling that it gave me.

That it was evil……….*shutter*

Uh, what?????
One I don't mind talking about is...I was working on a rental in the crawl space on damp earth.. There was some old loose wires that did not appear to be in use, I did not have my electrical current tester and just used my wire cutter to cut them. The wires were live and the next instance my body was paralyzed, I could not breath, could not move, coud not turn loose of cutters, but I could think. I mentally thought, ""God I don't want to die here.'' The next instance something grabbed me and rolled my body about three turns from where I was. My explaination is, it was my Guardian Angel or I woud be dead. The next day when I returned to finish the job, I cut the power before I started, which I alway had done.

Folks around me for any length of time become believers in the unseen,
remarking that summa my farts fall into the paranormal

Some carry an invisible chain

Usually about an hour after a large bowl of chilly

I believe there is something "other" out there, other than what is physical on earth that we see, hear and feel. Whether you call it a parallel plane of existence, an energy field, heaven, a higher power, the string theory, etc.

One reason I feel this way is my experience with the Ouija board. To make a very long story shorter, I have a brother that is about a year younger than me and we have always been very close. One of us got the Ouija board for Christmas one year when we were in high school. We thought it was cool and started playing with it. We didn't know what we were doing, took no precautions, nothing. When I tried it with other people, it pretty much did nothing. When I used it with my brother, the planchette would just take off spelling words and even sentences. It would answer every one of our questions. People would blindfold us, put their hands over our eyes and it would still move just the same. "Something" was moving that planchette. It was not us. After a while it creeped me out so much I wouldn't play with it anymore. I rarely try it, but on the occasions I do, at least now I take some precautions.

I don't think that when we die, this is just it. We will move on to something or somewhere else. Our time here on earth is just a step in the journey.
