Body of missing 5 yo old boy found, parents charged with murder

The parents of 5-year-old Andrew “AJ” Freund were charged with murder Wednesday, hours after authorities say they found what they believe is the body of the Crystal Lake boy wrapped in plastic in a shallow grave near Woodstock.

JoAnn Cunningham and Andrew Freund both face multiple charges in the death of the boy, who was reported missing by his father a week ago.

At a news conference Wednesday announcing the charges, Crystal Lake police Chief James Black said both parents provided information that helped close the case. Black spoke directly to the child after announcing the charges.
“To AJ,” Black said. “We know you are at peace playing in heaven’s playground and are happy you no longer have to suffer.”

Freund and Cunningham were charged with first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated domestic battery, and failure to report a missing child missing or child death. Freund was also charged with concealment of a homicidal death.

I just don't understand how someone could do this to their child.
 

Yup. I live within walking distance of where he was found. How they decided to search this area is beyond me. It's basically farmland all around.
 
The news said a police dog got a hit of the childs scent in the trunk of their car and after questioning they took them to the spot.

I'll have to get back on the news. I live here and I've not found the full story. Of course, tomorrow, it will be in the county paper, on the first page. I'll have to walk on over there in a few days to see exactly where this is. I figure on keeping away for now while everything wraps up. I assume there will be a lot of small memorials placed there.
 
It is a tragic case, very sad. It's hard to understand how parents can kill their own children, but unfortunately it's been going on for a long time. :( May the boy rest peacefully.

The expenses of a child cut into the parents' budget for cocaine & meth. It happens frequently. These parents may get away with it....like Casey Anthony did.
 
The give aways....during the 911 call the father made, he didn't sound upset or frantic at all...too matter of fact. If it were my little 5 year old, the emotions would have been evident. The mother was not cooperative. If you really wanted your child to be found, wouldn't you cooperate to the fullest. I knew when the last report I saw was that the dogs only found the scent of the boy in the home that it would lead to the parents. Well, I hope this couple gets thrown in with the general population (hopefully many of whom are parents). We know what they do to child abusers and murderers. I can't wrap my brain around people killing their own children. May this poor baby R.I.P.

Unfortunately, today, if parents report a missing child, they go to the top of the suspects list, with good reason. Sometimes, I would like to get a place on the moon, and leave earth far behind.
