Vaccinate/Refuse (This just in and maybe someone cares to read it.)

This just in...????

So who is this Erin Elizabeth? She's Dr. Mercola's "better half". Supposedly won a Doctors Who Rock award whose website is another front to sell more products. https://doctorswhorock.com/products

The article doesn't make any sense. It's just a come-along to get attention so she/they can hawk "Health" products; a water machine for close to $10,000. another for over $6,000. and $80.00 for 60 effervescent magnesium tablets!

Also for sale are jewelry, hologram cards and other gimmicks.

Here are a few things for sale on that website-

Just because something is on the Internet, doesn't make it true.

From your own link and if true, vaccines save 2.5 million children from preventable diseases every year. If you think that isn't worth the few risks, then I give up. emote shaking head no.gif Let's just not vaccinate and bring back deadly diseases. I'm done speaking on this.

I’m laughing at the source of info, from the health nut news and the way you word things.
Sorry! I just find you funny. Didn’t mean to insult the seriousness of the subject matter.

Oh, I thought you were laughing about what I said of CM's video about the man in the iron lung since you had quoted my post on that.

The video was amazing and so on point. What a fabulous attitude he has and such ambition. He still went to university and got a degree, can still write using his mouth and how awesome is it that someone refurbished an iron lung for him since his old one was leaking. My laughing was at the first two posts not this video. I clicked the wrong post.
This proves how important the polio vaccine still is. If third world countries are still getting it that means it’s still around.

I have a very good friend who has been into alternative medicine for many, many years. People who have these kind of beliefs like my friend can be very persistent. It's like a religion and they love to "evangelize". I just have to be just as persistent in telling her I'm not into it and please stop talking about it. She insisted on mailing me some kind of extract of something for the cold that I had. I told her don't, but if you do I'm telling you now that I won't be using it. What is not taken into consideration is that someone maybe convinced into taking some kind of weed, oil, or extract, whatever, and could be harming themselves physically in that they could have a kidney, liver or other metabolic problem and not know how some alternative type medication could be affecting them. There are side effects to these type of things, too. I can't understand how something being "natural" somehow means the same as safe.

As far as the anti-vaccine people. If I get a vaccine and get my children vaccinated, I wouldn't be "harming" anyone else. For those who refuse vaccines for themselves and children, they can definitely do a great deal of harm to others. That's why diseases like measles have made a comeback.

Of course, I believe the media blows the "comeback" so out of proportion and as for the vaccines most of my older lady friends all get the vaccine and that's their choice...not mine. My next door neighbor is 92 and very holistic in her health and would never get the vaccine and she's never sick. Just old and arthritic like I'm getting. My closest gf's are highly alternative and now taking a couple heart meds for afib that hit them a couple yrs ago. My belief and I think they feel this too, they were not getting enough magnesium and that led to afib...lots of info on this one.

I've always believed as far as alternative is concerned, this line of medicine should be first lines of attack and if these fail, then go with the hard stuff and deal with all the side effects and there are many from most of them. All the years I worked and there were about 40 yrs, when I got a cold or out of sorts I would stay home from work for a couple days and heal myself.

IMO colds are not a major public health problem hazard. Most people get at least one URTI every year and most are OK with or without any treatment. There is no vaccine that prevents colds so good hygiene and common sense are needed to limit the spread of the infection. If someone has a cold and insists on kissing a baby then they are very irresponsible and sending your children to school when they are sick with a heavy cold is also irresponsible.

Why talk about colds? To compare peoples' behaviour in other contexts. There are diseases with much more serious consequences than the common cold. Polio, TB, smallpox, yellow fever, whooping cough, German measles, tetanus, to name but a few. All of them have vaccines that have a long history and are proven to be effective. Any side effects or contra-indications are well known by now. Most people tolerate them but a small percentage of people are unable to be immunised. Babies cannot be immunised until around 6 months and must rely on the residual immunisation of the mother for protection. That is if she is immune in the first place.

If people cannot be vaccinated, or choose not to, then hygiene and isolation are terribly important. I was in Beijing during the SARS epidemic and the only defence available was absolute cleanliness. Frequent hand washing with soap was a must as was the continual wiping over of every surface that people might touch. Handrails were being cleaned by women wearing maskes everywhere we went. People who were sick with SARS were isolated and their families quarantined.

I believe we have to think not only about our own health but have a responsibility to try not to infect others. I may maintain the most scrupulous cleaning regime in my home but unless everyone else does the same and the public spaces are equally hygienic, my efforts are less effective than I would have hoped. It is the same with immunisation. I may have a strong immune system thanks to DNA, vaccinations or lifestyle but dangerous diseases will still be around and will break out as epidemics if there are a significant number of susceptible people and if public hygiene is less than optimal. A disease can be controlled or locally eradicated if everyone who can be vaccinated is vaccinated. The figure is around 97% of the population. Before vaccines, even with strict quarantining, diseases ravaged until they burnt out, leaving behind the dead and those strong enough to survive. Those lucky survivors had acquired immunity the hard way.

Having reread my post, I'm not sure I have made myself clear. Let me just say that I think immunisation programs are very beneficial to public health. Without them we would be taken back to the 1700's with much lower longevity. Child mortality would be quite high. Every mother could expect to lose one or two of her children at the very least.

And again we all have choices and some choose to strengthen their own immune systems and I've lived over 80 yrs now and I don't believe anyone has gotten a dread disease since I don't vaccinate except for the one I got for first grade. And I was out there amongst the crowds for decades.

Exactly. Before we had immunizations people were dying like flies from all kinds of diseases. Especially children under the age of 5. Who wants to go back to the dark ages? Not me. These anti-vaxers give me a case of the ass.

There was a guy and his wife that I worked with that were hawking that stuff on the side. They talked me into going to one of their "seminars" They had people in the audience who were obvious shills give their "testimonials" of how great these supplements were and how they had cured them of all their ills. And then they'd bring out these products that only they sold. Some kind of stuff made from magic green algae that could only be found in one lake in the Pacific northwest. Only $150 for a month's supply! It was the modern day equivalent of the old snake oil salesman.
