When my siblings&I were much younger,we would spend part of our summer vacations going to Vermont&New Hampshire, renting a cottage by the lake
In 1968,we took a 3 week trip out West going to Grand Canyon, Jackson Hole,Wyoming,Disneyland, visiting my mom's relatives in San Francisco

I think my favourite summer memories are when I worked the summer season jobs as a teen and lived on the Scottish Islands.... it was my first real experience outside of the city where I was born and raised...

Rainbow Beach, in Chicago. Great times, when I was 5-12 years old, even though I would get a catch in my throat, from the sand. Then, I discovered The Point, at 55th and the Lake. Swimming off the rocks, no sand, and I joined a drum circle there. More great times.

Going on vacation with my family. First it was me and my husband and our 2 kids. My Parents and my sister and her family. Then it got even better when my grandchildren came into my life and we all went on vacation together every year.

Vacations. As a child I saw the entire United States. I did everything you used to be able to do and no longer can-like you used to be able to climb the indian rock cave homes in Arizona. (Forget what they are called.). The forest service actually had ladders up to the roofs. Now it’s roped off, so you can see it but no touching.

We saw everything. If there was a sign that pointed to something that happened here, we went and looked at the plaque. Lol, we saw the Grand Canyon before they put in bathrooms. I remember cause I really had to go. I didn’t appreciate it then, but I sure appreciate it now. We traveled as much as possible with our children.

ROAD TRIPS-the only way to go!

Vacations with my Mom and Dad in the 1950's. My Dad only got 2 weeks off during the summer his entire life. One week of that was spent traveling through the New England states. I was allowed to pick the place we would stay for the night. I loved the little cabins they had for rent in those days. The rest of the summer was spent having fun with my friends, bike rides, day trips with my Mom,Grandma and Grandpa and sometimes picnicking, swimming at a lake on my Dads only day off. Great memories.

I can remember running around as a kid after dark during the summer nights, and catching fireflies ("lightning bugs") in a glass jar to watch them illuminate with their bright little pulses of light before setting them free...
