Who has sleep apnea? Your results?

My husband was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea - severe sleep apnea. He's had the machine for 8 days now. He doesn't feel a bit better, exhausted like he's been for about 10 years. Okay, might be too soon to feel effects. However, he's developed a raspy/hoarse voice. Not sure if this is something to be concerned about.

Anyone else have this, or know what causes it and what to do about it?

I have sleep apnea, but not severe. I had a CPAP machine, but I couldn't stand the hose hanging off my face and the constant pressure in my lungs. I decided there was no way I could go through the rest of my life sleeping that way. I read that the majority of people who try them give up on them. Mine had a container of water to moisturize the air and it had to be dumped and cleaned every day. I didn't get hoarse but I only used it about a week.

Somebody needs to invent a better way to control apnea. They would make a bundle if they did.

My sister had a problem like this when she first started using her machine. Some adjustment had to be made to the amount of moisture being delivered by the machine, because the air was drying out her throat.

He should discuss this problem with the medical supply place from which he got the machine. They can troubleshoot all kinds of problems like this. My sis talked about it to her doc, but he referred her back to the supply place, saying they were the ones with the expertise in adjusting the machine and they work with her doctor in being sure settings are right, etc. She also had a lot of trouble with the first mask she had. Again, the supply place found a better one for her. We've had to make several trips out to that place for one problem or another.

Tell him he shouldn't be reluctant to report problems he finds in using the machine. It has to work right for him or it's no good at all, and the problems only get worse if he lets them go.

I can't imagine trying to sleep with one of those contraptions.

My doctor thought I may have it and only asked me because I am overweight. I have seen pictures of people on those machines and would not be able to sleep laying on my back all night with that on my face. I don't think I have it anyhow. I think Butterfly made a good suggestion about seeing the supply company.

Yes, this is what I thought we should do to ask the supply store. Thanks so much for your reply. :) He seems to have no problem sleeping with it, as he's a constant back sleeper anyway. There has been a few problems with leaks but overall he does seem to be having better quality sleep. He just doesn't feel any better - but I'm praying that'll change. Have heard from others that it takes a little while.

There is some sort of implantable device...The morning talk radio show host pitches them.....Inspire....Adwww.inspiresleep.com/‎

I don't think I'd care for having that done either.

Due to my arthritis , and my sinuses ?? I sleep in my recliner. I sleep very well, 99% of time. Maybe my sinuses are something more?....but I still sleep very sound, usually a straight 8 hours. I wake [refreshed] feeling fine...till I move .

Is there huge difference between apnea & just plain snoring?

With apnea, one actually stops breathing during sleep.

I don't use a mask. I have air prongs, which fit into my nostrils only. Like how oxygen is delivered. I can sleep in any position, but always seem to wake up on my back.

I'm going to ask about a different mask but a full face was recommended by the sleep tech as my husband does sleep with his mouth open. Now the straps/material is irritating his skin. Sigh.

My sister has had several different masks. The one she has now is smaller and doesn't seem to bother her so much. Be sure he is following the instructions about cleaning it properly.
