I suffer from insomnia and depression which I Know contributes to it. I am SO exhausted that I'm having trouble taking care of myself. Im afraid to go out sometimes cause I'm afraid of collapsing. I v tried pretty much everything I can think of? My doctor won't prescribe me any thing, she's afraid I'll get addicted? I've gone 2 days with only 2 hours sleep. Does anyone have any suggestions, Whats worked for You? Thanks

That's terrible. Does over the counter sleeping pills work? You have to do something.Im 86 . Idon't care if I get addicted.
Thanks for your reply, I've tried many over the counter meds. Zzzqule, unisom, Benedril, etc. Well the doctor won't prescribe me any thing, probably because of this whole opioids epidemic? Walmart locks up All of their Medication and more. I read that innsomia is a BIG problem for seniors

Since the car accident many many years ago, I've had huge sleeping troubles... This week Benedryl is working for me... and Tumeric warm milk... Hope YOU get some sleeps soon!
Thanks for writing, I've tried Benedryl my body didn't react well to it. I heard Tumeric helped, I look for a recipe. I'm hoping for sleep also, it's gotten to where I get anxious when night time is coming.

I'm diabetic, it's been advised that melatonin is not good for me. I had a Bad reaction to Benedryl.

Taking melatonin does cause problems for some people.. for myself, very strange dreams. No more.
Reading a book when you can't sleep is supposed to help you nod off, and maybe calm your anxiety.
Hope you find help soon.

I Used to toss and turn before I finally fell asleep, then I found a solution that works great, for me.....a sip of Wine or flavored Vodka about an hour before bedtime. A little alcohol is generally considered to be Good for most people....And Probably Far Less harmful to the body than any drugs. Now, I usually hit the sack around 10:30 to 11PM, and the next thing I know, the clock is showing somewhere between 6 to 7 AM.

I have been taking melatonin for years without any bad effects.
My doctor finally gave me a prescription for sleeping pills; wants to know
how often I take them and will not represcribe for another 3 months.
Prescription is for 15 pills and I am only to take 1/2 at any time.

That's what I thought? I think doctors are worried about being libel about being sued if their patience get addicted? Their Really coming after doctors?

Doctors these days give small amounts of pills in their prescriptions specifically for that reason, but they don't refuse to give the patient anything when they have a sleep issue.

There are other things you can do also to improve your sleep. Take a magnesium citrate supplement to relax your muscles, ask your doctor if that's okay since you are on prescription meds.

Get some exercise every day, even a one hour walk or two half hour walks at a good pace will get your heart rate up and make you more tired at night.

Eat your last meal earlier in day, if you eat supper at 6 or 7pm, switch it to 4 or 5pm. That gives you a longer time to digest your food before bed, so your system isn't doing that when you're lying down getting ready to sleep.

What time do you go to bed Pat? If you usually go to bed at 11pm, make sure you turn off your computer an hour before, and it's best not to watch TV either right before bed if you have trouble with insomnia.

There are teas at the store like Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tea, you can try a product like that. It's not too strong and it does help people. Don't eat any snacks for a couple of hours before bed, basically try to start to unwind and relax long before bedtime. If you really want your sleep to improve and you're willing to make some simple changes, you'll succeed. Good luck!

Good ole-fashioned Ovaltine in warm milk is also a good sleep aid ... contains magnesium, along with several other vitamins and minerals

I have also experienced vivid dreams on melatonin. Some bad, some just odd. I had always wondered if it was because of my anxiety meds, which I also take at bedtime. But then I see others with same reaction. I have tried lower doses and not taking it every night. Seems to have helph
