Ants...

I can tell it is very hot out, killed at least 15 tiny ants on my monitor... Anybody have some safe solutions for around Grand Son and my puppies... Anybody have homemade solutions?
Thank you in advance...
Mike

We have a swarm in the south /of uk. this summer ' I live rural and we get lots of ant nests sometimes up the brick work
of our home ' when I lived in South Africa woke up one morning to a line of marching ants in the kitchen had to be nearly half inch long each one - that was very scary had to run and get my neighbour to help !

we have a product here called ant sand that works outside. we put them in ant hills they make on our patio and driveway. but ants usually return 3 to 6 months later.
inside we use a chemical spray. we clear our kitchen first , spray all the surfaces and leave it on overnight.
they also return a year later.0

Ants outside are an indication of a healthy environment - the more varieties, the healthier.
I leave them be if they stay outside and rarely have any in the house..
They seem to come inside when it is very dry looking for water.
I tend to be gentle with them because they are thirsty. 🥴

In the spring when their colonies are becoming active or breeding, I get some tiny ants invading at certain locations in my house. Ant bait traps, small plastic devices with lure inside, usually do the trick for me. The ants carry the bait back home where they consume it to their destruction.

This works for me..

All the above are correct. Artificial Sweeteners, which use Aspartame as a primary ingredient, are an effective ant killer. For faster results, I place a couple of drops of Terro Ant Killer in any area where the ants seem to be getting in/around the house.....and within a few minutes they swarm around the Terro, and take it back to their nests where it wipes out the entire "community" within a day or two.

The only way to get rid of ants is to kill the hive.

Boric acid mixed with powdered sugar works.

Sprinkle it on the hill. They take the bait down to the hive and feed it to the larvae. Eventually the hive dies out.

Now this only works on sweet eating ants, it does not work on carpenter ants. They eat cellulose and the timbers in your house just like termites.

I also become impatient and sometimes pour gasoline on the nest and set it on fire.

This is great for slugs snails and aphids outside while gardening. It’s also great for parasite cleansing for all animals including us.
I used it in my garden and it kept down the earwigs. How it works? Diatomaceous Earth is mined. It's actully made up of fossils. They have sharp edges. When an insect comes in contact it scratches their skin and they get a bacterial infection. They don't eat it.

It's the same stuff they use for cleaning up oil spills. You can get a huge bag of it at an industrial supply firm.

That’s exactly right. It’s made from fossils, is safe, effective, inexpensive and diverse.

I read that Cream of Wheat sprinkled around your baseboards works. They eat it and it swells.

I personally am lucky, I have my very own Bug Boy. My youngest son works for an exterminator company. I'm very appreciative. If I see anything, he will take care of it. We've already done ants. For some reason we have a gnat problem right now. He's in Jamaica with his wife right now, celebrating their anniversary (really? I was lucky to get a take out pizza in my day) so I guess we will deal with that when he gets back.

That's probably not the food grade DE you can use indoors around pets/kids.
We used to buy big bags of regular DE for our in-ground swimming pool, and I know it wasn't the same thing as the food grade.

Hint when using Terro the liquid kind. The paper it comes with gets soggy. That soggy cardboard left a sticky parch where I used it. Next use I cut aluminum foil squares about the size of the cardboard. No mess.

Mine is definitely food grade not pool grade
There certainly is a difference
