Its a very common theme in peoples' lives. Discovering gradually that "being nice and obedient " in relationships is not the best option. Nor is being controlling and tyrannical. Surely a big part of maturing is finding our voice. Finding the right words to communicate which respect both our needs and the needs of others. Communication skills. Which I still have a long way to go.There was a time when I was the consummate people pleaser. It stemmed from having some fairly severe co-dependent tendencies.
I did finally wake up to the fact that being as selfless as I became was extremely unhealthy and I worked hard to change trust. I do enjoy helping people though, and being useful, so I had to find the balance that worked for me.
