I think most try to be pleasing to those that really matter in their lives...or not. I try to be considerate, helpful but still want to be myself and pretty much am.

How much do you people please?

I'm a people pleaser in recovery!

I was a people pleaser! After a period of time I got to the point where I stopped because I became the human doormat, yikes! I now know that I’m just as important as anybody else and people can work hard to please me so there 😂

No we are not doormats!

There was a time when I was the consummate people pleaser. It stemmed from having some fairly severe co-dependent tendencies.

I did finally wake up to the fact that being as selfless as I became was extremely unhealthy and I worked hard to change trust. I do enjoy helping people though, and being useful, so I had to find the balance that worked for me.

Its a very common theme in peoples' lives. Discovering gradually that "being nice and obedient " in relationships is not the best option. Nor is being controlling and tyrannical. Surely a big part of maturing is finding our voice. Finding the right words to communicate which respect both our needs and the needs of others. Communication skills. Which I still have a long way to go. :)
