Some of those PA's on TV are so disgusting. Mostly they are an attempt to stop someone from smoking. I don't believe it even works but it just bothers me to hear someone sucking out dental appliances with exaggeratedly loud noise from their mouth. I have to turn away and try not to listen. Also really hard to take is those with throat or facial cancer. Does anyone think this kind of PA really is something that prevents this type of sad outcomes? If it really does then I might bear with them. But I just wonder. It's horrific to have to watch.

I think the good intentions of these are not reaching their target audience...the young people. They people are all older (most have died already) and the kids , I feel, cannot relate to them. It will never happen to them.
Also the ones to stop distracted driving. I hate to pick on the younger generation, but they all feel invincible, or "too smart" to let it happen to them.
I do not like the anti smoking ones. I also hate the animal abuse ones.

I know the one where woman is removing dental appliances. Ugh.

Also the 45 yo man who shows his scar from heart attack surgery. Eewww.

What's next - a bloody stump warning people not to jaywalk? 🙄

The animal abuse commercials are upsetting.

However, one that is thought-provoking and well done is where couple is arguing loudly and neighbor couple debates calling police.

There's also one where parents are yelling and kid is sitting in his room. Very sad.

Teehee, one really stupid one to sell home appliance insurance - the woman answers her door & the Grim Reaper comes in to kill her refrigerator.
Or that college student lying in the morgue with a toe tag because he didn't get some vaccine.
I'm still waiting for a condom commercial showing a young, pregnant girl.........

I don't believe they work either, and am also disgusted by them, they usually come on when we're eating supper, which makes it even worse. These exaggerated scare tactics do not stop anyone from smoking, that's a personal decision that is usually made for personal reasons.

Remember the one from years ago where the woman says, "Tobacco companies say cigarettes are not addictive. Now, how can they say that?"
Then she takes a puff on a cigarette by sticking the filter in a hole in her throat....

Sometimes those types of PSA’s do have some shock value. The announcements regarding not smoking would do it for me.

Here are the current statistics. "An estimated 14 percent of U.S. adults (34 million) were current (“every day” or “some day”) cigarette smokers in 2017—down from 15.5 in 2016—a 67 percent decline since 1965." So smoking is declining in the US. And about those gross anti smoking ads- do you really think having cute, hug-able cartoon critters singing happy songs is going to stop someone from smoking? The reality of smoking isn't pretty.

I don't think cute, huggable cartoon figures are necessary. Nobody has suggested that.

However...
Ever seen the Yul Brynner commercial/PSA, which aired after he died?

I think these ads are also meant to have a ripple effect. The more shocking and abhorrent adults find certain behaviors, the more inclined we'll be to influence young people against them.

There may be fewer cigarette smokers, but tobacco vaping is increasing at an astonishing rate. It should come as little surprise to anyone that e-cigarette companies like Juul are targeting youngsters with their products.

It has the same effect on me as the abused animals on the ASPCA ads. I just have to change the channel; it's upsetting to me.

THAT IS THE WORST THING EVER !!!!!!!! Could someone please pull the plug on that ?? I have to change the channel too ....
Gloom and Doom music and all those images ....sick
