What's yer pain tolerance?

I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. That's not saying that I don't complain a lot, 'cause I do. BUT, I figure that I can either stay home and moan and groan, accomplishing nothing, or I can go out and groan and moan while having a good time (which describes most of my hiking adventures). Hey, it keeps the bears away...…..

Mine has always been pretty high for everything but severe migraines and fibromyalgia. FM is relentless bone to skin pain like the flu that may last several days or weeks on end. The worst I can compare it to are migraines and broken bones. It's not as bad as the worst migraine, but is abount on par with a broken bone.
I also have fibromyalgia and migraines as well as osteoarthritis so I feel your pain, I never would’ve believed it so pervasive throughout the body. I’ve since been trying to lose weight and that seems to be helping me. I’m sending you a hug!

I thought mine was pretty high

Not that long ago I slugged thru a bout with shingles
Side of the head
More aggravating than hurtful
Took months

But

My last tooth cleaning
A deep cleaning...whoa

He asked if I wanted Novocain (or whatever is was)
Told him I'd pass

Oh, Mommy!

I think he enjoyed it a bit too much
Thought about grabbing his crotch and having a little tolerance contest

Anyway

Not gonna do that again in the near future

What's yer pain level?
Wonderful question Gary! Thanks for posting it

A couple of years ago, an incompetent dentist did an incomplete root canal. After my face started to swell up & the infection spread, I had to go to the E.R. because I had trouble standing & couldn't keep any food or liquid down. At the time, I didn't understand what was causing the nausea. At the E.R. they diagnosed Diabetic Ketoacidosis & Sepsis. Both can be fatal. Blood sugar was 705 when I arrived. The body basically turns to acid. The acid burns the lining everywhere - especially in the esophagus. Even swallowing water was very painful; it felt like shards of glass. 8 days of shivering & convulsing in a freezing-cold hospital room.
Before that, I thought the worst a dentist can do was cause a toothache.....

I’m never going to the dentist again! How horrible for you

My gallstones were painful, but in all honesty after I had my gallbladder removed, the Post OP Pain for 3 weeks after, was even worse tbh!!!..
Wow, my experience was very different, Holly. The gallbladder "attack" was a cold-sweat, white-knuckle experience, but after the surgery I felt great immediately. I had the laparoscopic surgery (one small incision through the navel) and not even a scar. I had to take it easy for a couple of days but recovery was a breeze.

Why would you blame a dentist for ketoacidosis? Did you know you were diabetic before the root canal?

Yes, of course I knew I was diabetic. So did the dentist. I'm blaming him for the incompetent root canal which caused the infection to spread - which causes blood sugar to spike in a diabetic. Extremely high blood sugar causes ketoacidosis.
It's not the dentist's fault that I'm diabetic; it's his fault that he caused ketoacidosis due to his incompetence.

Thanks for the hugs and congratulations on the weight loss! I gained 50 pounds in less than one year following the onset of fibromyalgia. My FM was triggered by a virus. Before FM, I walked, did aerobics, yoga, pilates even with several autoimmune issues including psoriatic arthritis. Post FM onset, my ability to exercise greatly decreased, and I crave carbs when in pain. I've lost 20 of that 50, but the FM pain seems about the same at any weight when it's flared up. Am still working on weight loss because I don't want to add weight related health issues to my existing problems.

Sorry, but if you are diabetic and taking steps to monitor your glucose levels, YOU are responsible for the ketoacidosis.

Not that I ever believed my pain threshold was anything bu low, but I feel like a downright wimp after reading some of these stories. Dentists don't dare start poking around with that little pickaxe unless I've been shot up with novocaine first.

Like others, I've had a few extremely painful ordeals in my life. Though I suffered through quietly, my pain register was through the roof.

Obviously, you are quite ignorant about diabetes. Nothing wrong with lacking knowledge, but when you lack knowledge, then blame someone based on that lack of knowledge, that's a different story.

Well, you should see a dentist - when you must. Some conditions make dental procedures more risky. That's why you fill out that form before your first visit - to let the dentist know what illnesses you already have, so he can take extra precautions & make sure he doesn't leave any infection behind after treatment....like mine did.

Oh I will, I was just commiserating with your experience! No worries there

I’ve always had a hard time going to Dennis specially when I move to a new area I had a very bad experience when I was a child being abused by

I’ve been losing weight but at a snails pace it’s amazing how when you get older you almost need to have a sandblaster take the weight off of you LOL😂

Actually, I am quite knowledgeable about diabetes. And I know that a diabetic is responsible for monitoring their own blood glucose levels.

Thankfully I haven't had to suffer from too much pain in my life. I did get one of those deep cleanings once from the dentist, but never again even though they always push it on me. It was supposed to lessen the depth of the pockets in my gums, but it just lessened the money in my bank account.

You're simply amazing. You know more than my endocrinologist & two E.R. docs.
That's what we call "A legend in your own mind." ;)

Gary O', When the dentists offered you Novacain he was saying, "Would you like to spend the next few minutes in Hell or Heaven?" 😛😝
Got that right
'next few minutes'....I wish
More like an hour
He wasn't satisfied until he found brain tissue
