--i am melting

Now that's a bummer twinkles...sure hope you get it fixed ASAP. Grab some cool showers and a fan to help out, huh. Or fan yourself with the fridge door...lol.
 
My heart goes out to you. It must be miserable there. It's been hotter than the dickens here in NC. Like over 90. You must be miserable. I'd be putting a fan in front of the freezer, and sitting in front of the fan. Poor frozen pizza rolls....

I can sympathize....ours went out last year during a warm spell in early May. Luckily, we were able to get service the next day, but it was pretty obvious that pouring any money into that 16 yr. old unit would not be very prudent. We opted for a new unit, and they were able to install it 2 days later....luckily the weather turned mild again, so the "inconvenience" was minimal. The new unit seems to be substantially more energy efficient, and our electric bills, during the Summer months, have been quite a bit less....this new unit may pay for itself in savings within 5 or 6 years.

Wow, Don...thanks for the info...what brand of A/C did you get? Need to remember that in case we have to replace a unit!

We got a YORK brand, and it is doing great....quiet, and saves on electricity. Over the past year, we have had to replace almost all of our original 16+ year old appliances....fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer, etc....all that's left is the stove, and it will probably be next. I'm of the opinion that if an old appliance costs more than 25% of a new one, to fix, it's probably cost effective to just replace it. We have an old Montgomery Ward chest freezer in the basement that we bought around 1975...and its still doing great, but new appliances seldom last anywhere near that long.
 
Still too hot here in Houston. Very thankful my new a/c system is working well. Its 2 years old and a good friend from Center, Tx. who is in the business came all this way and replaced it for me. I bought this condo in 2000 and knew that I would have to replace a/c and heating unit eventually. I was blessed that they lasted as long as they did before I had to replace them. Will October ever get here???
 
A2z grammie you are in north carolina and i am in georgia- washed a load of clothes this morning and got them dry and here i set under a fan

You can also freeze washcloths and put them on your head and on your neck can you tell I’ve been down this road? 😂
 
It's finally cooled off here in Maryland, after about 3 months of unbearable heat and humidity. Felt nice today to wear a jacket outside for the first time in ages!

So do we...it was 92 yesterday, and 93 today... and we have NO AC at all ...!!! ( I think I've said that a few times) :sneaky:...it was horrible today, I thought I'd got heatstroke at first because I felt so poorly after working outside for 3 hours in the mid-day sun... had to come in and stand in front of the fan for a while..then take a cold shower!! ☀☀☀☀

Better be careful in that hot sun. Someone I know was just recently hospitalized because of the heat. It finally cooled off in New Jersey. I just hope it holds for awhile. It was relentless for most of the summer.

I know Ruth, I am just stupid doing all that work in the sun, . I did have a hat one and Sun lotion and constant chilled water to drink ... but the humidity is soo high too, it just makes you feel ill after a while!! Tomorrow I'm taking a complete day off , and staying indoors with the fans!!

Don't do it again.

Do you know that if you have a bottle with a spray nozzle on it,
you can spray yourself with cold water, the finer the spray the
better the effect, you will feel cool, you can stand in front of a
fan if you like to feel cooler.

I used this when I lived on a boat in a marina, this was how I had
a shower every day standing on a towel.

We had our AC go down, in 90° weather, right before we entered our current 100°+ run. I had to order a new compressor. We were without central AC for a week. Fans did great, at night, a portable unit, on wheels, did OK during the day. You really appreciate modern conveniences when you're without them, for a bit.
 
Twinkles, you have my sympathy! Living in the South without air conditioning is rough. I would head to a motel if I could.
We lost ours for a couple of days two years ago. Fortunately, we have a small one in our sunroom. Everyone in our household including the dogs and cat retreated to that one room and slept on cots. That little window AC saved the day/night for us.
