I have been waiting patiently for my cantaloupes to ripen. Finally the moment has arrived

I've had a garden for as long as I can remember but never tried melons probably because they take up a lot of space. This year I had to leave a portion of my garden unplanted so we have a place to put our leaves. The last minute I decided to throw some cantaloupe seeds in the leaf area. I mixed a bucket of garden soil with last years leaves, fertilized and watered during the summer. Today was the moment of truth and it was well worth the wait. Very sweet and tasty and I have more on the way. Best of all my fence kept out the groundhogs and deer. All and all I had a very successful garden this year.melon.JPGmelon2.JPG

They look perfect for eating, we cut size of garden down this year and the cantaloupe take up lots of space so we did not plant any, but wish we had done at least 2 plants The garden was good this year, but it is fading fast. :(

Fresh cantaloupe from the garden is one of my favorites. We've been eating them for the past month, and I've had so many that I gave all the kids/grandkids some, and even took a half dozen up to the old folks home in town. The deers got a couple of them, but the motion sensor sprinkler has kept the deer at bay, for the most part. We should have plenty until October, if the weather stays normal.
