SeaSparkle, thanks for posting that website. I love the Derby, but since I don't get live TV anymore haven't been able to watch it.
I like to watch the pre-race show to see the trainer and jockey interviews and information on the horses really more than the race it's self.
In going through the horse's bio's, I haven't decided between
Palace Malice (24-1), or
Verrazano (9-1), I really like Verrazano, good trainer, good jockey. and the horse appears be well conditioned to has a huge stride that could carry him the distance.
It's hard to bet against the trainer and jockey team that Palace Malice has, even if he is quite a long shot right now.
Always put a few bucks on a real long shot, because everyone has a a good day sometimes. My LS pick is
Will Take Charge(30-1). He also has a nice long stride, but from the picture he appears to have some recent suture scarring on his left knee. I could just be the picture, but it makes me wonder. Despite the long odds, he has a great trainer, and a decent jockey. D. Wayne Lucas doesn't enter dogs, so this horse could be a sleeper.
It seems like there are a lot of horses with long odds today, so it could be anyone's race.
I didn't see post positions listed, and I usually make my decisions, partially based on that as it's hard for a horse to make up the distance on a far outside position, unless they get a good break in traffic.
Rkunsaw....LOL... you rolled your favorite and long shot into one pick...I like his name, what scares me is no jockey is listed for this horse yet.
Good luck and to all the horses and jockeys, I hope everyone finishes safe and sound, even if not in the money!
TWH and
TICA...would like to hear your picks as horse people.
