Transgender man who gave birth loses court battle to be registered as father

Things have always been weird but I agree that the birth certificate should list the person that actually gave birth to the child as the birth mother or a new category should be established. I think that this needs to be clear for medical purposes in the event that the child has a problem in the future. I would have no problem with custody documents listing this person's role in the child's life as father.

OK, exactly how did this ....ahem... man, become pregnant , & carry this fetus ? He has no ******, uterus, birth canal , etc & so-on.

If all those were 'installed' & he was modified......then he is not a man. I don't know what the hell he is, but he is not a man.

You're overthinking it. The transgender "man" is a biological woman.

I'm not very "politically correct" when it comes to all these "gender" issues. IMO, people are born either Male or Female, and should act accordingly. Failure to do so, IMO, is a sure sign of some serious mental issues. In a case such as this, where there is a child involved, that puts a huge burden on the child as it has to grow up facing such an issue daily.

Don, I agree with you. A person born with two X chromosomes in every cell of HER body is a female. This may be up for dispute in the case of physical abnormalities where the person has the apparatus of both genders, but that is very rare. In most of these transgender situations, the person simply feels trapped in the wrong body. This is a mental issue, probably an agonizing one to live through, but it doesn't change reality. In the case of this transgender "man" who gave birth, she is the biological mother. Calling her a father is absurd.

Legally this person is a man.
Biologically, this person is a woman. Unless some DNA changes can be done.(?)

My concern is for the child, not the parents.. It would be so difficult for the child to refer to it's legal, male parent, who acts and looks like a man; "mother".

I believe this is why this transgender man wishes to be named his child's father. For the child's sake and out of love.

So then the child's mom is really a woman? Who is a lesbian,? but likes her lesbian 'counter part' to look like a man?.......What a fustercluck when this kid gets old enough to figure it out on their own., or they mistakenly see "dad" naked.......

But yeah I agree....my concern is for the child as well, who has no chance in hell , of starting life with a normal functioning mind.

In this case the term 'transgender' is not accurate. Clearly this person is still a woman who wishes to be perceived as a man. Therefore she has not changed gender. In fact, it is impossible to change your gender. You can choose to live as the opposite sex, and make changes to your body by surgery, but you still remain the gender you were born as.

True, Rosemarie, but the term currently in use for people who feel trapped in the wrong body, and are convinced that they are really the other gender, is "transgender." It's a mental designation, doesn't matter if they have made physical changes.

In my opinion, it's a mental disease. Not everybody agrees with me.

"Legally" he is male.

The child was born to a woman who is living as a man. I dunno about the lesbian part. But the biological mother is a person with a uterus who sees herself as a man.

Can you be legally a male if you haven't had the sexual reassignment surgery? Evidently this person hasn't done so or he/she wouldn't still have a uterus to carry a child.
Butterfly, huge question, I was going by the article that said:

"Born female, Freddy McConnell transitioned to become a man and was legally recognized as male when he became pregnant in 2017, giving birth in 2018. "

So, apparently some interior plumbing was still in place. Before the start, she may have had some eggs removed and frozen, then artificially inseminated. I don't know how much tissue must be remove or changed.

It goes on....
"It is now medically and legally possible for an individual, whose gender is recognized in law as male, to become pregnant and give birth to their child. Whilst that person's gender is 'male,' their parental status, which derives from their biological role in giving birth, is that of 'mother.'"

While I tend to agree with this, it seems to me it would be hard on the child, to call it's parent "mother" when the parent is a man. I suppose through daily life, the child can call him father, anyway .

I hope it all works out for them.

Side note- "A feature-length film called "Seahorse," documented McConnell's journey. " I love the title because it is the male seahorse who gives birth to the babies.

IMO society places more of a burden on these kids than their family does.

I don't think little kids give any thought to their parent's gender identity or sexual preference until they go out into the world and see how it is perceived by others.

The answer to your question is yes. You can go to 2 years of intensive therapy, live as a man for at lest 2 years, go to court, go to the DMV (and I'm probably forgetting another place or 2) and change your name and get a new birth certificate, new driver's license etc.
