Careful When Ordering Online - New Scam For Profit

Could someone explain to me how that happens that you get tricked into signing up for Prime? I am not the most aware person on the planet and if someone could be tricked into something that would be me. So, I am totally flabbergasted. Maybe I'm more detailed oriented than I think I am. That would nice, but I doubt it.

I called it trick because if I hadn't seen the fine print, I would not have caught that it was automatically signing me on for Prime Trial when I placed my last order from them. This is the first time this has happened. Other times, I have been asked to click on a yes or no question as to whether I would like to join Prime and I have clicked on No. But this time, that option was not available. It was as win321 described.

Just don't click on "would you like 1 day delivery"...lol.

Another company pulls the same crap - "Sirius Radio." It's a subscription radio, like Cable TV.
When I got a new car, it came with a 3-month free trial. When I didn't keep track of when the 3 months were up, I started getting bills, which I ignored.
When I got a call from them asking for payment, I asked "When did I order it?"
She said, "You were automatically signed up for it after your 3-month trial."
I said, "Since you signed me up for it, YOU can pay for it."
She got the message.

I must have a different version of Amazon, because I've never seen that asked to me. See what I mean by being an unaware type person? However before I got Prime, I purchased stuff with being aware of how it would be shipped, how to put together my purchases, and how much it would cost. Always. So, maybe it is me that is really aware to not have been caught in the net that some folks here have been. I mean, seriously.

I feel it is not "tricked" as much as not being totally versed in the fine print before checking out. I have had Prime for several Years, so I am not exactly sure how the options read for non members. My take is, if there is a * next to a chosen option, I would want to look for what is entailed in everything.
I love Prime, but find that since Rick died, I am not using the video option much at all, that was his thing. And I am buying from brick and mortar stores much more frequestly. That being said, when my membership expires at the end of this year, I am going to let it go. I have switched, and opted out of the "auto-renewal", so I am sure the membership does end.

Win, I got the same crapola from Sirius when I bought my car. They gave me 4 free months, which I didn't ask for and didn't need, and then the barrage of advertising from Sirius began. (Not billing in my case, just advertising, but it was so annoying. "Your Sirius subscription is running out, etc.")

I did not want or need any more music providers; I have 4 different radio stations that I like, not to mention several million CD's, of which I always keep about a dozen in my car's storage compartment. I gritted my teeth and just ignored Sirius until they finally gave up, but I still get an occasion ad in the mail.

Marie, I sort of went in he opposite direction from you, with my Amazon Prime membership. I resisted joining it for a long time, and finally did, because of the free shipping. I didn't even know they had a TV streaming service, included with the membership. I didn't have a Roku stick yet, and never like to watch TV shows or movies on my computer or any other device other than my TV.

So when I finally did get the Roku stick and started streaming Netflix, I was surprised and delighted when I discovered that I had access to all kinds of wonderful shows and movies, included in the $10 monthly Prime membership. It was like getting a nice gift that I didn't expect! I like having two premium streaming channels, and don't intend to get any others; those two provide more than enough entertainment. (And last night I didn't tune in to either one of them, as I watched the Nats lose to the Dodgers on regular TV.) šŸ˜•

Ditto, there is more to Prime than free shipping... (y) (y)

I think we need to remember to check if things are on auto renew or auto pay if we go not want them to be. We fell into the Sirius trap too. Got it off auto renew. It expires end of this year.

We have had Amazon Prime for many years now, and have had very little trouble with it. Occasionally, something is not packaged properly and arrives broken, but Amazon either refunds the price or replaces it immediately.
Besides the free 2-day shipping, we also have the Prime Video, Amazon First Reads, as well as Prime Reading. Since I read a lot, I really enjoy getting the free books to read.
Amazon First Reads gives you a free book each month, and it is a choice of about 4-5 new releases that we get free, a month before the regular release.
Prime Reading is like a lending library, where you can borrow up to 10 books/magazines at a time, for as long as you want.

We occasionally buy car parts from Amazon, and the Amazon Garage will show you parts that fit your specific vehicle, once you put that information into the system.
We also use Amazon Smiles, which is a program where you select the charity of your choice (local or national) and each time you order, a small portion of the cost is allotted to that charity by Amazon. It is a great way to make donations to a charity, since you are ordering the item anyway, and Amazon makes the donation, not you.

I love getting the flavored coffees from Coffee Fools on Amazon, but the lat time I ordered, Amazon sent the wrong flavor. When I reported it, they just sent me out a new one in the correct flavor and told me to keep the other one, too !

An issue I run into this morn, I stopped for gas, filled up the tank with my CC, when asked whether debit or credit. I of course replied credit. When I was looking over my charges later I noticed a $1.00 charge. Only thing I could figure, it was a fee for using a CC. $1.00 for a $35.00 fill up works out to a 2.8% fee, my card pays 1.5% back so I'm the loser on that transaction. Cash only at the pump!

My ISP charges $3.50 if you use a CC for the monthly charges of $40. Another 8.75% fee. I'm not sure how many other establishments are charging a fee. but I'll bet it's more wide spread than we realize. Back to cash, & lower my tips to 15% of the check before taxes. We are getting fee'd to death. And they want us to use plastic for convenience!

I love Amazon and Amazon Prime. We can stream movies and TV shows, get free delivery on lots of stuff. I do my Christmas shopping on Amazon -- better selection, free delivery, and I never have to get out of my jammies if I don't want to. What's not to love?

Never had a fee on my CC...

I guess it all about your locale. We have station attendants, can't pump your own gas, so we pay more per gal. The ISP in question must be trying to make up their losses or not incur more. I also have never paid a fee on my credit cards, unless they were charged by the business. When I do get dinged I take it out on the business itself, make it inconvenient as possible, pay cash or take my business elsewhere.

We don't have sales tax, that's about the only positive, although the state government keeps trying to instill it, the people say 'no'. Our property taxes are one of the highest excluding Calif. Our state income tax other than SS is 9% and it rains constantly.

I winter in AZ gladly paying their sales tax which is 6%, with better healthcare, lower gas prices & the sun shines almost everyday. My auto fees (tax & lic) is about half of Oregon's. I keep tying to pry my wife out of the state, but can't fathom trying to live in the summer heat, give me my mountain top in Idaho.

I don't like the way you are almost forced to get "Prime". But I do like the convenience in getting stuff delivered, since I'm disabled. Years ago, I thought that living in the sticks would be great. It is fun to sit there, eating breakfast, and there's fawn, munching on grass about 6 inches away from my window. It's a bitch to have to drive for a couple hours, each time you need to buy something.
