Hi, don't usually post anywhere but I can't seem to come to terms with this college stuff.

I don't watch her tv shows or follow her. I think she is a nice looking woman but I can't figure out how she could be this stupid to think she will win her fight. Part of me really does not care but there is the other side that to be honest would like to see her get 20 years

She's just posturing, with her plea. It's a legal tactic to see if any concessions will be given by the prosecution that may allow her a soft out, when it comes to going to trial. If none are coming, you can rest assured that she'll change her plea to guilty, and do a few weeks in a country club prison. No biggie. This stuff goes on, day in, day out, all over the US. You don't hear about it because the litigants aren't "celebrities."

It's going to be interesting to see how this all spins out. The prosecution has plenty of incentive to make examples of her and her hubby, not the least of which would be to use as a carrot and stick during future cases:
Felicity Hoffman can be their shining example of what can happen when you cooperate after getting caught re-handed, and Lori Lauglin the horrible warning of what can happen when you don't.

p.s. @tigrunner It's not stupidity as much as arrogance.

Think people can become very shallow and their worlds have no "walls" when fame and fortune comes into their world...they can suffer giant disconnects from morality and reality.

Again, she'll plead guilty, almost as sure as I'm typing this in. She was caught, just about dead to rights. I can't see how any competent attorney, representing her, will let this go to trial. The only exception would be if she has some alibi coming in from wayyyyyyyy out in left field, that only she, her husband and her attorney know about. I tend to doubt that. My money's on her changing her plea, fairly soon.

I've been starting to think that perhaps there are hundreds of students each year, getting the spots this way, at even just that single University , by having them bought like these notables were.

And that would equal millions, across the Nation.

The huge numbers of bought college seats, might be staggering, and shift totally, the general concept that most spots have been earned (or not) through valid application processes.

If so, it's all the more important that this dam break.

To your point, treeguy, what possible alibi could be effective? Even from wayyyy left field?

Imagine being operated on by a doctor that cheated his or her way through college? Wow, now that's a fine & feely visual isn't it.

It matters because of your fabrication(s). You can pull things out of the air all day long; doesn't change the facts.
Agreed. It's also a huge leap to go from successfully bribing one's way into a university for an undergraduate degree to imagining that strategy will work for graduating high enough in one's class to be considered for medical school, doing well on the MCAT, getting accepted to medical school, passing the classes and graduating, successfully surviving hospital residencies, and getting licensed.

Here's a fact for you, neither the kid on a sports scholarship , nor the one admitted due to family wealth is getting in on his own scholastic merit. And colleges are suppose to be about scholastic achievement .

Yeah, we can only hope, huh. But lets not forget the true story of The Great Imposter...guess where there's talent and a will there could be "a way".

Fair point, but those kinds of imposters are a whole 'nother kettle of fish from people who attempt to buy their way into universities and come out with bona fide degrees.

Hey Star...but what if they tried that first and failed...lol.

"and come out with bona fide degrees. "

IMO, those are as rare as , sport standouts achieving the same.

There will always be "cheaters" right ? Of course not, but if we are going to attempt a stop of it? Let's attempt to stop it all........not look the other way when it's for the team.....

"The average athletic scholarship is about $10,400 per year, or $8,700 if you don't account for the more generous scholarships usually reserved for men's football and basketball players. Only four sports offer full rides: men's football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and women's volleyball."

Not true. My niece had a full ride on a track scholarship.

Hey, I know someone who got school loans for a master's degree and hasn't paid them back. She didn't get a sports scholarship and has not paid for over $100 grand!

Average scholarship, maybe, when all sports are entered into it.

But a coach named Tommy Tuberville from Alabama? said just the other day that a modern football/basketball, full ride scholarship is worth about $50,000 .

This story made me SO angry, and I mean viscerally MAD. I took a step back to wonder why. I think it's because the kids of wealthy people already have so many advantages, and yet their parents have to buy them a spot at a prestigious university. They could have hired tutors to give their kid a leg up, or private coaches to hone their athletic ability, but instead took the easy way out and bought them a place. And Lori Laughlin's kid turns out to be a shallow, but successful, you tube star. She should do her You Tube schtick and let a more deserving student have her spot. Sigh. I know it has always been this way, but I hate it.
