A Bar in Dublin Ireland obviously fed up with having work-shy snowflakes working at their bar, placed a tongue in cheek advert for a vacancy at their Bar, and Ironically were forced to remove it after the snowflakes themselves complained..

I think it's hilarious, and oh so true... I've had personal experience of these snowflakes working for me, and they are an absolute nightmare...

We are looking for self-entitled, over sensitive, and passionate individual who has the ability to find and take offense from the most innocuous things imaginable.

'The ideal candidate does not need to be able to work as part of a team as some of the best work will be done alone, anonymously and from the successful candidate’s bedroom.'

'Typing skills are essential as this role will involve A LOT of typing such as leaving one star reviews on Tripadvisor because the server in the Restaurant did not address you with the correct pronoun.'

They went on to list key skills, including smartphone use, selfie-taking, social media understanding and typing.

The ideal candidate will possess:
'Maximum of 5 years' Millennial Experience;
Absolutely no resilience whatsoever;
No willingness to consider controversial or opposing views;
Over confidence and naive ambitions;

Self-righteousness and indignation.'

Very true hollydolly, I have seen these people in inaction,
I nearly said in action there, but that would be a lie.

Mike.

What exactly is a "snowflake"? I hear the term bandied around, mostly by conservative type folks. Is it political sarcasm? Guess I'm too old to have heard it in person. I only hear it on these forums, and usually from the same people --that's what makes me wonder?

The bolded part of Holly's OP explains it pretty well. It's an overly sensitive person who "melts"(has a meltdown) when faced with criticism, opposing views etc. There's generally not a formulated response to opposing views, nor even a desire for meaningful debate ...a "you think differently than me so you're a bad person" sort of emoting. If a snowflake is in college in the US, they can retreat to Cry Rooms or Safe Spaces on some campuses to do their melting.

Teehee. I've been called a snowflake because, during a chat about bullfighting & rodeos, I said they were cruel to animals.

Sounds like you were on the receiving end of snowflakish behavior!
Some men think it's macho & manly to enjoy cruel, bloody sports (with animals and people) & men who don't agree are "not real men" or"wimps." Really makes me laugh.

I've never heard the word "snowflake" used in that way either. Maybe it's an English thing?

As far as the description of these people goes, it sounds a lot more like many of the seniors that I know than the Millennials. I am frequently blown away by the cheerful, courageous, life-affirming attitudes of most of the Millennials I know. I've often said the rest of us should try to behave more like them
(and I'm not only referring to my grandchildren, I mean all of them!)

Well, outside of the over confidence and naive ambitions, which might actually be faults of the young, all the rest of it sounds a lot like many of the folks I know over 70. And the more they get over 70, the more that description is true!

Sounds like a crotchety curmudgeon works at that bar. They should hire more young folks! 😁

I'm with you, Sunny. Pretty rude and pretty dumb. Bet they lose some business over this. I surely wouldn't patronize an establishment that was so ageist toward the next generations.

I figure I'm a "real" man. However, I don't like blood sports, violent movies, constant swearing & a lot of dead bodies in movies. However, I love poetry, a good book, traditional country & classic music, beautiful paintings, a good glass of vine & intelligent conversation. Does that make me "unmanly"? Me thinks, NOT!

Unfortunately here, in the Uk certainly we do have a big problem with many self centred millennials who take offence at the wind blowing in the wrong direction, who don't wish to work, and feel self entitled to everything without putting any effort in to get it in the first place, and it's so endemic ...hence the tag ''snowflake''.

The term isn't new..it's been around in it's present form for around 10 years..

No they won't , this was reported on the actual news this morning..people applauded, because most people are thoroughly sick and tired of this ''snowflake generation''

To each his own. I wouldn't patronize an establishment that vilifies and stereotypes a generation. Having been part of a generation that was on the receiving end of that treatment, I take offense to those kinds of generalizations. Perhaps that qualifies me as a snowflake.

I've seen and heard the term "Snowflake" used here in the USA to describe a spoiled, entitled person who gets all pouty when people don't cater to her (or him...but usually a female). People often walk on eggshells because they don't want to hurt the widdle Showflake's feelings. :rolleyes: The Snowflake often "puddles up" and/or throws a tantrum when disagreed with or even mildly criticized.

To my knowledge the term has nothing to do with politics or age.

Bullfighting is no less than ritual torture of an animal. Period. If anyone doubts this, look up what the bandilleros and picadores do to the bull before the matador steps in to kill it.
And, you should hear me cheer when the bullfighter gets gored.

The millennials have parents and grandparents. Their name is US, and they are ours. Never thought my generation would get to be old farts complaining about the young 'uns. Really. Age warfare. Jealous over those who will live when we are dead. Shame.

Older generations have ALWAYS complained about the younger. I'll never forget the first time my dad saw Mick Jagger on Ed Sullivan. :ROFLMAO:

No jealousy; just a lot of "What the hell???"

Goodness me I don't think for one minute people are envious of the young , . I know I'm not, and I've never once heard any one of my peers say they are either. In fact if anything they are pleased they're not living in this generation.

The fact remains that so many of the young generation are now self entitled, unable accept any views other than their own without creating a drama , and lazy... not just my opinion but the opinion of so many that they have been given the title ''snowflake generation''..

However , it would seem from some of the answers on here it's just not the young who are snowflakes...:rolleyes:

You have culture, Packerjohn...something sadly lacking these days. Being a brute is more acceptable to modern society.

Thanks Rosemarie for the compliment. I will try not to let it go to my head. LOL Since retirement I have also spend a lot of money on traveling: Africa, winters in Europe, Texas, Mexico, trips out to Newfoundland, Maritimes, Quebec & hoping to do Alaska & the Yukon in summer of 2020. I really feel sorry for fellow pensioners who I see go to the casinos on bus trips & waste their money. Every morning I strum my guitar & sing those lovely old songs that will never be old to me. There is so much to do in retirement I am surprised that more people don't look around & get going. For those with nothing to do, I say go to your local library. There is a huge amount of interesting books, music & videos out there to borrow for "free". Life is short; must get going!
