I think she's been seriously manipulated, and I actually think she's potentially mentally unstable, she should be in school and her parents should be ensuring that she is, instead of travelling all around the world with an angry young lady ... at 16 I'd already been out for a whole year working a 40 hour week in the big bad world!!
I suspect she's more manipulative than manipulated. She convinced her mother to end her singing career because it used too much airplane fuel. And look at the effect she's had on the world. She's like the Energizer Bunny; she just keeps going and going. Should she be in school? She seems to be more educated than most high school graduates these days. When I was 16, I was wondering what I'd be doing with my life. She's doing it. If she's angry, it's because she knows we have zero time left to fix things. I have no complaints about her.

It's not crap!
She may be a nut case and hysterical, but the message is real.
We must be better stewards of the earth; we're only borrowing it from our children.

Nothing more for me to say.

Well, I respectfully disagree.......the earth is an ever changing planet/rock....and IMO our influence is barley noticeable. Should we clean up the plastic & other assorted trash ? Absolutely !! Are we ruining the rock ? Not IMO.

This posting is the first time I've seen this girl. And it sounds to me that she is like all the other climate change protesters, green new dealers, etc. She is full of "feel good" rhetoric, learned catch phrases and blessed little substance. She is very good at snarling "How DARE You" to world leaders, she is very good at pointing fingers and yet has little else to add.

How does she think we are going to solve this in the blink of an eye?? The technology we need to capture CO2 emissions is not quite here yet from some sources I hear. I think we are very close but not quite there which is why 10 years is the goal.

And what about personal responsibility? There are mountains of plastic in the oceans; plastic water bottles are a very easy thing to stop using, but people still do. How many of these people that went on climate change strikes preach about personal responsibility? I think if these people are really serious about changing the environment for the better they had better be ready for a global lifestyle change.

The reason that I think she does not deserve any acclaim is that she hasn't really done anything other than scold people, and that has not affected AT ALL the real problem countries, which are China, Indonesia, and India. She deals in emotion, and raw emotion at that. No real solutions. When she starts going to India and Indonesia and wagging her finger in their presidents' faces, then we'll see.

I think that there was a time when Greta was just a school girl who cared about the climate. She's been changed now, though, altered by the whims of her financial backers.
Can you give examples and details of this, or do you just believe whatever pops up in your head? Not trying to be rude, just curious. I admit I don't know her past or the people in it.

I have received 3 conversations regarding this thread. Here is my reply in the conversation, this is usually how we moderate political threads:

The initial political ban is to stop the bitter argument around the presidential election and both parties. We don't want to extend the ban too much beyond that.

Many topics such as taxes and health insurance can't avoid politics completely, so, usually if a topic wasn't created to discuss politics, no important political figures or parties involved, we don't want to intervene. There are also discussions about UK and AU politics, but there are no arguments, we didn't moderate them either.

We try to give the members maximum freedom to discuss things while keeping the forum a friendly place.
