Residents annoyed after McDonald’s blasts bagpipe music to deter homeless people

Residents around a McDonald’s in Sacramento are apparently fed up with the restaurant’s blasting of bagpipe music to deter homeless people, according to reports.
The restaurant, located at 24th and Broadway, had been blaring the music 24 hours a day until some neighbors complained, CBS13 reported.

I'd find that very annoying, too. Almost as annoying as I'd find it to live adjacent to a McDonald's.

Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!

(The rest is depressing)

Love Judy Durham's voice on that song. It's on my "Seekers Greatest Hits."

Local church used to broadcast hymns on Sunday. It was nice with whoever was in charge of the volume, the hymns lilted through the morning air. Then someone else took over and increased the volume. Blasting hymns on a Sunday morning when working people are trying to sleep in just wasn't a good idea. That was the end of it.

Our nearest McDonalds is about 40 miles away.
The seaside village of Gardenstown is noted for its vociferous evangelical community.
One Sunday we went for a walk there just about the same time as some over-enthusiastic preacher started up on the pier. I've never seen a place clear so quickly - Almost as bad as listening to Leonard Cohen. We got away as fast as possible.

I'd find that almost as annoying as going into a McD's and trying to eat the garbage they call food!
Yes, well I must admit to having worked at a McD's during college. It was real food back then, no pink slime or chemicals, but nevertheless far from healthy.

At any rate, I will give them their props on one this - that McD's was so clean you could practically have eaten off the floors. Cleanliness was emphasized über alles, from the corporation to the franchise owner to the person who emptied the trash cans into the dumpsters.

In those days the McD corporation frequently sent out undercover inspectors. They'd order, eat, rate the freshness and flavor of the food, and rate whatever crew they observed, plus the appearance of the parking lot, dining room, and anything else they could observe from the public area.

After eating, they'd go up to the counter, request to see the manager, announce themselves, and break out the clipboard. The manager had to tour them through everything - freezers, office, grill area, everything. They showed up when we were slam-a-jammed at high noon, ten minutes from closing, and times in between.

Stakes were high - heaven forbid a franchise fail inspection. Do so repeatedly and the corporation had the right to yank the franchise from the owner. I don't know how it works now, but back then no McD's had ever been closed by a health department. The corporation had far more frequent inspections and way more stringent standards.
