How do other posters cope with tinnitus? I have had it constantly for about 30 years, but it has got worse in the last ten. It is so loud I can often hear it over the sound of the traffic when I am driving. I have got used to it more or less.

I wrote this poem a few years ago.

Unremitting Resonance

(For The Suffers of Tinnitus)

Pulsating, whistling, ringing continuously,
The brain aches with the constant din,
Blessed silence a distant memory,
No external refuge is afforded,
Escape and sanctuary a forlorn hope,
No eluding the unremitting resonance.

Just talked to my doc about it again....Thought there may be something new....There is not.

Mine is caused by undiagnosed ear infections when I was a child. I have a lot of scarring in my left ear, the hearing isn't so good in that one either, I just wish it deafened the sound of the tinnitus.

I too have been plagued with this rotten tinitus for over 40 years, so you have my sympathy. I don't have any suggestions to help you ( like me, you've probably looked at all so called remedies ), but I wish you good luck with it.

I used to go out with this guy -then he got tinnitus-he totally change from a loving man to a shell of a man
who's only conversation was he's hearing ' I had heard of this little gadget from germany which he seemed interested in
so I sent for it ' but it never worked out for him , he tried everything that was possible - then he grew distant and we lost touch
I was so very worried about him as he kept saying I cant live like this ..

it is a awful thing to have -and I do pity those who do '

They said a similar thing to me about the cause of my Tinnitus. When I was young and had an earache the Doctor would lance my ear. I have soo many scar's in my ears and they say that is the cause of my Tinnitus. They said there is nothing they can do about it. Honestly it drives me crazy.

There is only one thing you can do for Tinnitus. Get used to it. I would love to have a few moments of silence, but it's not going to happen. Most of the time I'm not aware of it. My brain tunes it out. Other times it can really roar. Whatever caused it doesn't really matter. It's here, so I deal with it.

I have read that some sufferers have committed suicide due to it.......It is a serious problem. One person I heard of had a 'nerve' cut. Gave up his hearing all together.

I get this from time to time when my ear gets infected. I’ve got lots of scaring since I had a full ear drum replacement. What’s been helping me a lot is by using a sinus mist inhaler . I’ve got one where I add my own essential oils like peppermint, eucalyptus, tree tree. Opening up and clearing my sinuses has helped keep my inner ears, sinuses and thrust healthier.

Another thing that helps a lot is that I see an ENT specialist once a year to get my ear drained out. It’s done with a high powered machine and literally takes seconds.

I’m seeing him this month and am going to ask for helpful hints regarding this.

It really helps with singing too🥳

Good luck

I've had tinnitus most of my life. Something that might make it better is the herb Ginkgo Biloba. Supplement capsules are readily available.
I take 120mg daily, and another capsule or two on days the tinnitus is bad. For some people this can make it more tolerable, but may not make it go away. Ginkgo Biloba is also good for healthy brain function & circulation {makes you smarter}. Like any supplement, you need to take it for a few weeks before deciding whether it's doing any good or not. Taking it for 2 days and declaring it doesn't work isn't going to cut it.
Something that makes tinnitus worse is aspirin and aspirin substitutes. Try doing without them and see if there is an improvement.
So many people take prescription Motrin, Aleve, Advil, and Tylenol for other things like arthritis pain. The doctor won't tell you that the side effects of these drugs is making your tinnitus worse or that they may cause deafness. Another side effect of these drugs is liver damage.

I went with my mother to her hearing doctor recently and he told us that there was no herbal supplement that could help hearing, so don't bother trying anything. Too late Dr. know it all~I've been using Ginkgo for years and it helps me.

My mother has been taking massive doses of prescription Motrin for years. One day she woke up and the hearing in one ear was completely gone. She uses a hearing aid now and still takes massive amounts of aspirin substitute. She refuses to even try any other way, because the doctor knows all. Her choice.

I've had it for at least 25 years. I have a low-pitch sound like a generator & several high-pitch tones. Yes, it's very loud, especially in quiet environments. That's why I hate quiet & I like noises that most people complain about - dogs barking, etc. Before I can sleep, I set the TV to be on for 30 minutes at low volume.

Same here. Mine is like a white noise type that is similar to the old "snowy screen" on a TV back in the day. I don't even notice it most of the time.

I believe there’s a herbal treatment for everything .
Some people call it Gods pharmacy.

Well, I have been searching for about ten years now and have .....so far found nothing that works. I did try the one most advertised [Lipo-Flavonoid] I followed the recommended regime for the full three months........No help there either.

Trust me, if I should find something?..... I will report it here immediately.

My ex has tinnitus which he always had problems coping with. I joined a tinnitus forum with him, back in '99-2000. For some, or possibly for most, it's better not to join T boards as it keeps it in focus .. though it can be helpful at the outset.

I've had tinnitus since I was working in a school...I've gone to Doctor's and not much can be done....

When I was in the school office I sat near the loud bell.....It was there to notify everyone in the building to leave to the outside building..

Right now I can hear it.....I do have a hearing aid to hear, most of the time....But when I am alone even with my husband and the TV on
I still hear the darn ringing in my ears....Sometime's I can't sleep unless Hubby will have the TV on or the radio on it may get me to sleep.....

I have to live with it....

So many musicians have T, but I've noticed that a lot of them now wear ear protection.

My ex used to have a transistor radio under his pillow in order to help him fall asleep. I'd bought him a sound machine, but he didn't use it much.

I have had it for decades. In my case, nerve damage causes the racket in my noggin. Like others have said, I mostly don't even hear it anymore unless I focus on it. My brain seems to tune it out when I am not actively paying attention to the ringing.

I have learned to utilize tinnitus to filter out other noises in my environment. Before I moved to my current home, I had a neighbor with a teen age daughter. Her boyfriend used to bring here home from dates and sit outside on the street with his car engine running. I could actually focus on my tinnnitus and largely drown out the engine noise. I know it is all a trick of the brain but it worked for me.

I have had it as long as I can remember. What is weird is when our two local television stations sign off they broadcast a high pitched sound along with their test pattern presumably so technicians can adjust sets. The sound is exactly the same frequency of my tinnitus and it masks it. It's kind of relaxing. Most of the time I'm not aware of it. I also read somewhere that it starts with migraine headaches and the headaches stop and you get tinnitus instead.
That's the case with me.

I have it in one ear, comes and goes, thankfully not constant, and not too bad either. Using earbuds set it off a few years back, won't be doing that again. I worked around loud machinery a lot over the years, usually wore protection but not all the time.

I have a tiny radio under my pillow every night, usually start off listening to a talk show and then dose off. I try not to put it directly under my ear though.
