Sign Of Things To Come, adding 'minimum wage fee' to tab

The guy is obviously trying to gin up resentment towards the minimimum wage increase.

He could have just as easily raised his prices about 10% & put up a sign in the dining room explaining why.

But I suppose in his mind, he figured that by tacking on a flat fee & labeling it on the receipt, he'd get people pissed off at the gub'mint.

The owner will either raise prices or add on the surcharge. I think waiters and waitresses have always been under-paid. There are some servers that do not earn a tip, but most are hard-working people and I tip even the bad ones, although not as much as the better ones. Most servers are dependent upon tips to survive. My wife and I frequent one restaurant in particular here in PA. Over the years, we have come to know the servers by name and I always recommend this restaurant to my friends and acquaintances when necessary.

Heck, we even tip the Subway sandwich maker if there is a tip jar out, which many do not allow.

I think he is hoping nobody will notice that min wages on the receipt.
The only number I ever look at is the total.

Why doesn't he go whole hog and just list every line item of his overhead on the receipts?

All he needs to do is raise his prices - everyone else is doing it, without having to resort to this little "Woe is me!" stratagem.
