The older I get the more I HATE computers.

just registered that you said you lost some artwork. What type of art do you do?
 

The old desk top here is slowing down these days, hard ware is having a harder time dealing with the amount of data the internet and many programs use these days. The system is 11 years old last month and well used. I will have to start looking for a replacement soon and so far I don't like what I am seeing. They all want to run on automatic loading a load of c...p. I don't care to have them put any system in it, I will install Linux.
Once installed it runs great, with little worries and a little maintenance...

How is the older printer connected to the computer? Wirelessly, USB, or serial cable?

I'm still running Windows XP on my Acer computer. I don't even have antivirus on it. I can't upgrade and I don't care. There's so much neat stuff on it that I love. I use an I pad as well and my cell phone is like a computer.

Well then. Wirelessly is fussy depending on the wi fi setup. Read the instructions carefully. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.

See if you can hook it up with a USB cable. When you do that its self installs the printer. Much simpler. I have a very old Canon black and white only printer, works great. Hooks up with a serial cable. They don't make those anymore.

I did try to uninstall the current driver and it refused to.
I searched for a USB cable, without any luck. I'll get one and try it. I really like this printer and would hate to replace it if it isn't necessary.

Not the drivers. Uninstall the complete printer and reinstall it from scratch as if it was a new one. Worth a shot.bThe install finds the drivers.

art is art, though, isn't it? I was taking a class recently in lino block cutting and said that I'm more of a dancer than an artist but I love drawing and painting. The teacher said: then you are an artist. . .if you make art and it pleases you, you are an artist. I suppose that is where the saying "art is in the eye of the beholder" comes from ;)
 
I only use my ipad for everything now, too. When I first got it, I just loved how simple it is to use, how easy to take along and use anywhere. I loved not having to be at a computer desk , and being able to relax in my comfy chair.
I do have a Dell XPS-18, and it has the larger monitor, and I like that if I am watching a YouTube video and want the large screen size, otherwise, I seldom even turn it on.
I also have a Kindle Fire 7, and that is what I use just for reading books, because it is so lightweight and easy to use for books.
I love that my Apple devices all sync with each other, so they are pretty much interchangeable, and when I take a picture with the phone, it is automatically put on the ipads, too.

I love my I pad as well and now because I have a wireless printer I can print from the I pad easily.

What I miss most is a keyboard.
 
I have a Bluetooth keyboard case that I use with my large iPad, @Camper6 . I have 3 iPads, the 12.9 iPad Pro that I use for typing because it has the keyboard.
I have the 10.5 iPad Pro that I just use with a lightweight case when I am just browsing online, or something where I am not typing much, and want to hold the iPad, but I also have a keyboard case for it, and that is the one that I carry along when I am on a trip.
Then, I have an iPad Mini4 that I use to take to bed with me at night and listen to the self-improvement and healing apps with my headphones. I also use that one for reading, or if I am going somewhere and just want a lightweight ipad to take along in my purse.

This is my iPad with the keyboard case.

Ah, sorry. Windows isn't good about setting them properly, though every Windows update is supposed to set one prior to the actual patching. Doesn't clean up after itself, either. I used to have to delete a couple of gigs every few months from update downloads. Then I just turned 'em off.
