Practical Question and Answer Thread

An answer and a question:

Answer: The meaning of life is what we make it. We are the ones who give meaning to things.

Question: What are the small, subtle things that make you feel happy and make you smile? (people are always talking about happiness in terms of achieving life goals, but I find that sometimes it is the little things that bring me contentment and make me smile - so I'm just curious whether others notice the same thing).

My answer: I get a smile when my English pen pal sends me a picture of his hike or his bike ride, or his trip to watch the Potters play (that's on my mind since he just sent me one). It lets me know that we are friends and that he thinks of me. I get a smile that my kids call me everyday just to chit chat. I get a smile when I give compliments to random people on the street and it surprises them but makes them smile. I get a smile when I miss the monthly breakfast get together of my H.S. classmates and they call to see if I'm O.K. (I'm usually out of town or wouldn't miss). I get a smile when my landlord comes around to check on me if he and his wife haven't seen me in a few days. I get a smile when the local librarians and the servers at the local Tim Horton's say they miss me if I haven't been in for a day or so. . . I love all the little things of life. (other little things include the beauty of new flowers in the spring, the sound of the river as I walk the trails in our local parks. The joy of a good book and a great cup of tea (again, thanks to my English penpal for some fantastic tea). . .

Purpose of life:
Words may not encompass the extraordinary ways a soul must live through the senses of the physical body to grow to an enlightened being but simply put, Life on this Earth is a purposeful function necessary for a soul to experience in order to lift the consciousness into a higher being and a higher level of existence. The soul must develop in inexplainable ways to prepare the mind of the soul and the heart (feeling) of the soul for the ways of God.

Now, I have a practical question Janice, I've designed and developed a series of cartoon sculptures, (really funny!) which I would like to market. I have NO IDEA how to market them! I am making molds and handpainting them so they won't be really cheap, but won't be able to manufacture them in bulk either, because I'm doing this on my own. Who knows anything about marketing? Can someone direct me to what my next step should be? Thanks in advance if you can help!

I'll play.
What is the meaning of life?
Sorry, upon reflection I was being a bit of a Smarty Pants.

On a practical level, I have trouble with heartburn and we have had to move our evening meal to a much earlier time. This results in me getting pretty hungry before bedtime or in the middle of the night.
What is a good bedtime snack that doesn't cause heartburn?

My husband and I have had good results with eating a small tart apple as the last thing in the evening. After regularly doing this, you will notice less or no heartburn at night. The kinds we use are either Granny Smith or Pink Lady, both tart.

If sodium isn't a problem for you also, when you feel heartburn coming on, you can take a half teaspoonful of Baking Soda in a small amount of water. It should make you belch if you stay upright, sitting or standing. After that, the heartburn is usually gone. I avoid taking things like Tums, that type of calcium can build up in your arteries and cause strokes, etc.

Pecos
scrambled eggs delightful (no pepper) but who wants to scramble an egg or two late at night.
Buttermilk, but there's no crunch of the teeth which satisfies.

Seabreeze says tums are bad, didn't know that.

I'm an oral fixated person, have to have something to crunch, mostly 'bad
stuff.' Do get tummy burn...
Some say burnt toast won't result in tummy burn-don't know.

@Pecos ,
I try cooked hot cereal or something else that's bland.

@win231 .... a person runs across the highway, and the deer chase....them at first, and then, each other...?

Gaer, I know that Sadie already mentioned Etsy which is a good idea. On a smaller scale you could try local craft shows first.

I'll put this here in case any one else is in the mood for making cash.

I made doggie costumes, a variety of sizes and had cards made for customers who wanted something specific. The biggest seller was the outfit called Victoria's Secret, a jazzy black and red lacy number, and the runner up was The MaryAnne, pink and white gingham....think Gilligan's Island

Gaer, Now that the weather is getting warmer should be lots to choose from. Table space at the craft shows rent for a nominal sum and word of mouth will help also. Good Luck

I don't play this game. Then answer is very subjective & very philosophical. Some might say:
1. It's God's plan
2. You can "party hardy"
3. You work & you slave & then you die

Like, I said, there really is no answer but I suppose that someone has already written a book on the subject. Especially people who think they know it all & the good lord knows there are many people who think they know it all. Me, I don't know & I never will.

Ladies, Thank you for your input on marketing but no, not Etsy or craft shows. I mean professional marketing in a high end venue. But, I appreciate your help.

Small and subtle to make me smile - hearing my family of mocking birds sing again. They've been quiet for several months. Heard this morning and I've been smiling about it all day. It's great to get so much pleasure from something so simple.
