Pretty Good News (Harvey Weinstein got 23 years in prison)

Harvey Weinstein got 23 years in prison. I bet he will find his life in prison very different than living in his villa with swimming pool, garden & servants & spending his days winning & dinning with the rich, beautiful & famous in his world. I think this is pretty good news. He has been giving men, in general, a pretty bad name. It's nice to see justice being done because very often justice isn't being done. Not with the rich & greedy that hire a legal team to fight for them. Nice to see that those poor abused women finally got their day in court. Puts a smile on my face & a little more faith in mankind or is it womankind? Now, I was just wondering what ever happened to Bill Cosby? Does anyone here know? He was the 1st of the "big, famous, rich, powerful men" who were very ungentleman like with the ladies.

Cosby is in jail, where he will likely stay.
Thanks Pepper. That is good news. I hope he stays there a very, very long time. Ditto for Weinstein, Peter Nygard & those other what you might call "perverts". That is the 2nd piece of good news today. I don't follow Cornovirus but it sure is in "my face" all over the place.

NO! In SCI Phoenix, north of Philly in home state of Pennsylvania. He actually spends his time giving motivational speeches to inmates and compares himself to MLK and calls himself a political prisoner!
ok thanks for that correction , I really thought I read somewhere he had been sentenced to house arrest...

The long sentences are designed to pacify people to avoid outrage.
Weinstein will never serve anywhere near those sentences. No way any state prison will pay for his medical upkeep that long.
Sentences are automatically cut in half, plus good behavior reductions.
Older inmates are typically released even earlier to save costs; that's why the Manson girls were granted parole & they're much more evil than Weinstein.
O.J. Simpson was sentenced to 33 years for armed robbery & kidnapping. He was released after 9 years. Again, older inmates' medical care is higher, so they're labeled "Rehabilitated" & "No longer a danger to society."

Maybe Bill Cosby is doing stand up comedy for the immates. You know, the bit about Fat Albert & his stories about kids. He loved kids. LOL

Well, I for one am for serving all the sentence handed down by the judge. IF !...it is a righteous guilty verdict. But again, I still have heard nothing about evidence in the Weinstein case...as such, how can he even be guilty.

We [as a nation] are headed down a very slippery slope , if we start finding a verdict of guilty & convicting just because the jury happens to believe this or that accusation. Particularly when some of these accusations go back ten or more years!

The hour/day whatever, just following the accusation is one thing. A torn shirt, bruising , etc.....tell a whole different story. But ten years later? And one of these women even admitted to having dates/consensual sex with him, after the date of the criminal accusation.

Since none of us were on the jury or the judge, it is impossible to second guess their decisions in any informed, intelligent way. Our system, while not perfect, is amazingly good. Weinstein (and Cosby) got what they deserved.

How can you say that [in the Weinstein case] when no evidence of wrong doing/criminal act was ever produced? Cosby finally admitted to being guilty in one or two of the charges against him.

Weinstein has done no such thing. So far as i have found, it is just his word against the word of his accusers. So the jury just assumed, the women were truthful, and he was not.

Keep in mind that this could happen to any man....any man....to whom any woman accuses in any similar situation. This could be a son, a brother, whom ever.

As I said, I had a friend, now deceased , that went through this. The victim broke down on the witness stand and admitted it was all a lie. My friend's life was never the same, not to mention that it cost him some $60,000 in the process.

Ordinary people, without phenominal wealth like Weinstein would have been found guilty, locked up and the key chucked away, whereas, Weinstein, with the best legal brains that money can buy was still found guilty.
I think the verdict was correct, and, as as for needing special medical facilities and treatment, he paid for it outside of jail, he should be made to pay for it inside jail.
The World is a better place with the likes of him in clink.

Well, rpg, you're correct. There was no DNA evidence, no fingerprints, no video. You had two people testify under oath. They testified to sexual assaults inn great detail. Their testimony was backed up by 4 more witnesses, who testified under oath, that they also were sexually assaulted. Those women were backed up by 28 "previous bad act" testimonies, under oath. One accuser , it's a "he said/she said". Two accusers. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. And that's backed by 28 others= 32 years in prison. If 36 people "accused" X of being the guy, who robbed a bank: you don't think he should be convicted?

There was a trial here in Canada similar high profile gentleman and it went the opposite way, Not Guilty.

What was interesting was that Jian Ghomeshi had a woman defense lawyer, wondering if that was part of the reason that the man came off as more believed. The lawyer produced love letters written after the act took place.

Soon someone will draw up a consent agreement and any man even thinking about sex with a woman sure better have it signed and get a buddy to witness it, preferably a woman buddy

So, with no evidence at all,you have deemed this man guilty of all that he was accused of, by the women noted?....Were you there ? What makes them the more believable ?

No...I could not convict any man, without some evidence to consider above accusation. Just because 10 people said you robbed a a bank, does not make it so. Where's the money stolen? where's the bank security camera footage? IOW where's the evidence/proof? I cannot vote to take your freedom, on accusation alone.

Not quite. Mike Tyson served 6 years for rape.

It happens all the time. And they never prosecute women who do this.
Some women will have consensual sex, then feel ashamed & sleazy & turn it into a rape to save face & look like a victim. I personally know 2 women who did that.
One of them I was dating for 3 months. I'm never pushy about sex & after 3 months she got pushy. Later, when she was in a bad mood, she said I "forced" her. That was a very fast breakup. All her crying, apologizing & begging to get back together didn't help. She blamed it on her period; she said, "I'm always crazy during my period." I suggested she lose my phone & address as soon as possible.

God only knows what would happen if she made a police report....

You, clearly are wearing blinkers, the man was/is guilty, a jury decided so, and justice was served. I know you don't like the outcome, but get over it...........you can't change things.

I'm not wearing anything....you clearly fail to see that a jury may have found him guilty....But that does not mean he is. Being found guilty by evidence shown is one thing, but being found guilty by only the opinion of 12 people, that came to that conclusion by believing a mere accusation , is something else entirely.

You get over it......I am leery, and will continue to be, of any criminal accusation being enough to take away a persons freedom . Again remember , this could be any man...including you.

I hope the verdict is overturned on appeal.
