Animals taking over/advantage of people free cities in Italy and US

Caught just a mention of it, on the evening news , but it was reported that Dolphins have been seen in the canals of Venice ? I have never been to Venice so I do not know first hand , but it was reported like it was never before seen?

They are returning to their natural habitats. Gives a humbling window into how quickly the world will revert if humans suddenly disappeared. We wouldn't be missed, that's for sure.
I think dogs first appeared during the ice age. Not sure what or how they evolved from. If Darwin is to be believed, all life was first began in warm ponds as cells and evolved from there.

I may be wrong about that. I remember while in high school and we were studying the difference between science and evolution, our science teacher, who based everything on science and not evolution, kind of bs’d his way through how life began. We, as humans, have to decide for ourselves.

Boy, did this post go off topic. Sorry.

Checked online. It was CBS news, but no dolphins in canals. When I was there, the water was dirty. Per National Geographic, this is false rumor.

Well it's nothing new. The Colliseum in Rome is loaded with feral cats.

When I was an avid photographer I used to visit ski hills in the summer.

They were loaded with wild life and an opportunity for some great photos.

The water is clean-ish in Venice currently... but not because it's been cleaned or it's miraculously become clean in a 4 week lockdown , but because without boats and gondolas moving around all the muck has settled on the bottom of the canals. ..and will be disturbed again and be as dirty again as soon as normal life resumes.

However it IS true that Dolphins have been seen in the clear waters of the canals the last few days...

Rome has an estimated 300,000 feral cats roaming its streets. But rather than considering them a nuisance, the city council actually supports the cats as part of Rome's ancient heritage. In 2001, the cats living in the Coliseum, the Forum, and Torre Argentina were officially named part of the city's "bio-heritage."Sep 15, 2019

That's true, as is many places in Greece and Cyprus (rhodes is particualrly bad) ... which I found to my cost when visiting them because I'm allergic to cats ... and these cats are absolutely everywhere..dirty , filthy, hundreds literally lying in the streets, jumping on your cafe table while you eat..*ugh*

I live a mile from a city and have coyotes, groundhogs, feral cats, squirrels, chipmunks, skunks, hawks, etc. Haven't yet seen them taking over the road YET! I have a mini-pond and the critters are using it for drinking water. Not sure if that is good or bad - never thought much about virus cross-species transfer before.

Once place has cats another one has monkeys and then our city is overrun by seagulls.

I stepped out of my car to eat a sandwich and I was bombarded by seagulls.

On the golf course the crows and ravens used to follow the golf carts around. When you parked and went to the tee they would steal anything your picked up at the half way house.

When it comes to food animals are clever.

Half way house might have a different meaning here 😂

When we first bought our home, 43 years ago, there were a lot of snakes....One day on the back porch I saw a snake....So I went to
turn around to go in the house, I sprained my ankle...(I'll never forget that)….After a couple of years we put stones in the back yard
and a pool...We haven't see snakes anymore....Probably because there weren't many people on the block...When they started building
homes, we didn't see many snakes.....Only Squirrels
