San Francisco Walgreens employees fear for safety amid a trend of aggressive shoplifting. An employee says as the thieves are stuffing their bags they say they just tested positive for the virus to scare them off. A thief tried that in a Walmart elsewhere as was charged with robbery since they used the virus as a threat. Appalling videos shows thieves basically pillaging or looting stores un-challanged.

Employees noted the lack of security or ineffective security along with the lack of safety gear including masks and gloves. They got masks after the initial report.
 

Some of our local Walgreens were victims of aggressive shoplifting long before the virus. They’d come in decently dressed, browse like any other shopper & fill one of the little baskets
with whatever they wanted then near the front,dash out and jump into a waiting car. One ran right past me while I was standing in checkout line. Seems like security as never close enough to grab them.
 

In my area, there have been increased problems with juveniles shoplifting; they are out of school, bored, and at times unsupervised. For that reason, juveniles who are out and about are supposed to be in the presence of an adult when away from home...
 
Looting is a big problem now, even with businesses closed. Locally the police chief said that burglaries were up 18% since everything closed.

..... and probably going on in many places, non-violent criminals are being released from prisons to ease crowding in jails. Not a good picture.

I think they should do what Carrefour in Spain usedto do in all of it's stores , and that is that everyone has to pass a security desk as they enter the store.. all bags except a purse is taken from you (which is taped up) , and other bags are either put into a locker.. or wrapped tightly and securely in tape and polythene to prevent people from putting anything into their bags which isn't paid for... . If you're spotted taking the tape off as you go around the store , you're immediately marched out of the store by security of which there are several . No-one is permitted to leave the store unless they go through checkout (and all umanned checkouts have barriers to stop people walking through) ... or back through the security desk of which they'd have to jump a turnstile because it open only into the store and not out.

Also they have inner and outer electric shutters in some high end department stores so at the press of a button,, both shutters come down very fast enclosing the thief/s in between 2 metal shutters with no way out

We should do the same thing in our stores too, because I can imagine the same type of thefts will start here before very long, and we only usually have one security guy in each store..too

what does that mean?.. that their faces would be shown if they were white?...

here in the uk they blur people's faces regardless of their colour, for no apparent reason sometimes, and other times allow faces to be shown.
It could be possibly that they are under age.. or that they have not been charged with any crime, so innocent until proven guilty
 
The longer this virus crisis lingers, the more the Scumbags will brazenly rob and loot. Given the number of idiots in our society, I expect that criminal activities will increase substantially in coming weeks and months. The police are being impacted by this virus, and that will also encourage these crooks. There may well be zones, in many of our major cities, where lawlessness runs wild.
