Leaders in France and Britain joined Trump's broadsides against China, as two US media outlets reported suspicions the virus accidentally slipped out of a sensitive Wuhan laboratory that studied bats.

President Emmanuel Macron told the Financial Times it would be "naive" to think China had handled the pandemic well, adding: "There are clearly things that have happened that we don't know about."

Never trust China about anything. They are the true Evil Empire. Why would you trust a country who's culture considers effective lying as a sign of intelligence?

What we in the West would consider to be a bald-faced lie, a person in greater China might think of as a courtesy, a convenience, or a smart tactic, none of which are immoral. In fact, lying to achieve some business or social aim, and getting away with it, is considered to be a sign of intelligence and social skill among many Chinese.
 

Deeply Understanding another culture is crucial to international relationships, and is why diplomatic postings should be treated as extraordinarily sensitive roles to be held by those well-versed in both countries' cultures. Instead, they're plum political rewards.

A prime example, and not to bring up an old, sore, political subject, but anyone who truly understood Iraqi culture in general and Saddam Hussein's history in particular, would never have given any credence to his obviously empty boasting of "weapons of mass destruction."

The world taking the Chinese government at its word is as foolish as them taking the US government leaders at ours. Both repeatedly exaggerate, posture, threaten, float trial balloons then ground them, and put up false fronts.

For the record, much of the rest of the world sees the US as the "evil empire." I'm not defending China's actions, merely pointing out that our country doesn't have the most stellar record when it comes to truth and transparency. You're right, they didn't handle the pandemic well, particularly in the beginning. Then again, neither did we,

There's a big difference in botching the US handling of the virus and knowingly hiding the fact there even was a virus while knowingly letting it spread around the world.
