I live in
Albuquerque NM, practically the hot air balloon capital of the country. Huge Balloon Fiesta in October, as many as 700 going up at once in mass ascensions. Fantastic. Many Many special shapes, including the Darth Vader. Never had a ride here, but had a tethered balloon ride in VA. Wonderful feeling. The balloon stays still and the ground drops away. http://balloonfiesta.com/ lots of pictures within that website. I have albums full of pix.

Geezerette, someone I use to work with went to that festival every year, and showed all of us some awesome photos he took while there. My neck hurts just thinking about being at a festival like that, looking up to the sky for so long, lol. You're ahead of me with the tethered ride, I haven't gone up at all, but always thought it would be fun. I hear a lot of accidents though, somehow they often hook up with power lines or something else, and can end in tragedy.

I would go up just to see the world from a different view point. I thought they were a beautiful, but my favorite on was the one that look like many balloons. :goodone:
I have been to Albuquerque for the balloon fiesta and also have flown over that area during the fiesta, as well. It is really something to see and if you ever go, I do suggest taking a balloon ride. The Sandia Mountains that time of year are just beginning to turn colors. I was with a friend who lived in Albuquerque at the time and he took my wife and I for a ride up to the top of the Sandia Mountain. It was really something to feel the climate change from where we started on the ground, which was in the 70's to where we were at the top of the mountain, which was in the 50's and windy. This is what make that area a great area to fly the balloons. The mass ascension in the morning is really something to see when some 700 balloons lift off at the same time.

We would love to have it visit ABQ! the stranger the better!
When I was there, there was a balloon that looked like the Wells Fargo horses and coach.

My favourite was the Flying Cow over the Swiss Alps. 
The view must be spectacular up in a balloon.
